But back to the subject didn't some 95's come with either OBD I or OBD II that the year they swapped over (I believe) contact "Shoebox" he should have the info you need .
I believe the major differences are :
crank hub , cam pin length , Opti , crank sensor , timing chain cover .

In all the years of existence of this board, no one has ever documented a factory OBDII '95 V8 F-body. Some say some of the six cylinder models were OBDII.

There we go with the California cars again... Or did you change it yourself?

Don't forget the 95 3.8s as well. Now I wonder if those were OBD1 or 2?

Re: Difference between 95 and 97 LT1 motor???

Always the OBD discussion.

All1995 LT1 f-bodies were OBD-I (w/OBD-II style DLC under the dash). If you have 2 factory cats on your 1995 (California emissions), you are still OBD-I.
1995 3.4 V6 f-bodies were OBD-I
1995 3.8 V6 f-bodies were OBD-II

LEATHAL Z,
The opti is the same 1995-1997.

Okay this maybe a little off key but I have 95' motor that's getting redone (355). Will I have an issue with using the 97 ecu/pcm? Will I have to run with a single cat or can I still keep duals? I guess I'm a little confused on this.

If your car is originally a 1997 and you are getting the bottom end of a 1995 engine redone to put in, all you have to do is put all your existing top engine parts on it and drive on. No problem.

I always wondered about the 3.8s. But then I guess I should have known, if the 95 3.8s were OBD1 all the aftermarket vendors would be selling the ecms. As of yet, the early 3.8s are still untouched by the tuning market, something to do with difficult code?

So Shoebox, first thanks for the reply. Second, I plan on having the heads ported and matching cam to go with the bottom end. I'm guessing at that point it will not matter cause a ecu/pcm will need to reprogrammed. Right.

Yeah, you will likely want to get some custom programming.

Re: Difference between 95 and 97 LT1 motor???

I have a 95 and put in a 97 engine, the only thing I had to do was put the 95 sensor from the block into the 97 engine. The heads on the 97 flow a little better than the 95, but the wall castings are thinner and when ported can warp easier...I ran into that. The solution to the whole cat thing...is just leave them off or hollow them out. I would like to put some cats on, but there just isn't any more clearance officer I am happy with the swap...I didn't do a whole stock to stock trade, but she definately feels a little faster...heads/intake/cam...etc. I get it dynoed on thursday and can't wait to see the #'s.
