Question difference in a4 transmission in 1994

I have a 1994 firebird that needs a tranny and I am being told only a 1994 4l60-e will work in it. Do any of you know why or if there is a difference vs the other 4l60-e transmissions?

1994 was the first year for the 4L60E in the F-body. The '95 model 4L60E was changed to a Pulse Width Modulated Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid. The '94 models simply had an On/Off TC Lockup Solenoid.

The Jasper engine and A4 we dropped in mine were both from a 96, no problems yet.

Is the lock up going to be a problem, can I program the pcm for a 95 and get by it?

To be on the same side...I know that you can swap your '94 valvebody and wiring harness onto the '95 transmission and it would work just fine in your '94 car. I'm not sure what would happen if you simply installed the '95 model trans "as is" into your car. I'm thinking that you'll have to tie the two TCC solenoid ground wires together ie. pin "U" to pin "T" on the main transmission harness connector in order to have a functional lockup, but if it worked for Big Evil, it may work for you as well. Like I said, worst case, you can always swap valvebodys and wiring harnesses.

His was probably just built on a non-hangover day. F-body cars are notorious for having huge power differences on the same exact set up. Difference between Monday and Wednesday, I guess.
Anyway, I don't know if it will screw you up or not. Ask Injuneer, do a search and he'll probably be able to help you out.

I think I am going to just overhaul the 94 transmission just to be on the safe side I am sur I could get the 95 to work but I don't want to have to experiment just so save a few bucks. Thanks for the Posts guy it was a big help and very informative.
