Exclamation It didn't start this morning...

So i was driving home from work last night and all of a sudden, the tachometer and the speedometer died and the SES Started to flash. 2 seconds later, everything returned to normal. I go to start my car to warm it up this morning, because its 11 degrees, it purrs. I turn to leave the garage, get to the door, and i heard it die. I climbed in and tried to get it to fire, nada. WTF? Are they related????

Did it turn over (crank) when you tried restarting it? Sounds like you may have a loose ground somewhere. Here's a link for non-starting LT1's.

Well, since you said the speedo and tach died and the SES light flashed, I'd say that something electrical was going on. Did you get the car scanned to see what the code was? There is a PCM ground on the passanger side of the oil pan, a ground strap on the coil bracket bolt, ground on the passanger side motor mount (wouldn't keep the car from running), and there may be others. Get the SES light checked and check all the grounds and make sure they are grounded. I hate electrical gremlins.

Doesn't have to stay lit. The PCM stores the code for a period of time.

maybe you can rent one if you dont want to have it towed last time that happened to me with the tach and speedometer it was a bad alternator and caused my gauges to go crazy when my headlights or something else would be turned on. like what was said...check all grounds and check the back of the alternator and make sure that cable didn't come loose

Edit: can anything turn on? headlights, stereo, etc?

That's why I asked him about the car cranking after it died. If the battery wore down enough to not run the car, it wouldn't crank (or it would be very slow) immediately after it died. The alternator was the first thing that came to mind as well.

Mine is having the same sort of problem. It stumbles and dies alot. Sometimes it won't start at all unless I keep cranking and have it floored. My mechanic says he thinks it's the PCM which is tuned. I got some codes for you guys though. 51 and either 36 or 32. can't remember exactly if it was 32 or 36. It's been down for months though and it's killing me. I replaced the whole ignition by the way, the cap rotor distributor coil and ECM. I dunno! I'll drive it sometimes and it will run fine for a while then just die.
