Didn't install poly motor mounts with headers....
I have had no clearance/y-pipe issues currently. So are the stock ones sufficient? What are other real benefits from switching over besides holding the engine better? Is it "bad" necessarily for it to move? Finally, since I didn't do it with the header install and there's no way in hell they're coming off again, is this task possible with LT's on the car? Thanks!

Re: Didn't install poly motor mounts with headers....
i want to know the same thing..... ever since i put my LT's on, they have been rubbing on the K member; i ordered the poly. motor mounts by PROTHANE and want to know how difficult it is to put them on..... any write ups, tips are welcome.... THANKS
Re: Didn't install poly motor mounts with headers....
I recall hearing something about removing the alternator (no biggie) and the A/C (no idea how to begin to remove A/C or what parts exactly require removal) to "free up room" -- now, is this to free up room to make the job easier, or is this to make it possible?
I do recall an A/C line PERFECTLY in line when I broke the bolt loose to jack the motor for LT install....
Thanks guys - I'm still curious also about the other advantages/etc I mentioned in initial post!

Re: Didn't install poly motor mounts with headers....
polymounts i think make a huge difference. why "anticipate" no clearance problems when you can be 99.9% sure of it with the new mounts.
they are relatively cheap insurance.
and if the LT1 is anyting like my LS1...there is NO WAY IN HELL you are installing them after the headers go in.
it was a 10hour job when i had just manifolds. would have been a 2hr job if i had done it when i put headers on...there is tons of room with the exhaust out of the way

Damn...wish I had known it was such cheap insurance -- I was unaware of the price on these when installing, thought it was a lot more -- but I must have seen something else -- guess I'll just hope these hold up another 5 years or so until I get new headers -- or maybe I'll blow a gasket and that'll force me to want to do it, who knows...

Just a tip, you will probably have to remove your y-pipe if you want to replace the mounts. I tried to jack up my motor when I attempted to replace my motor mounts with my headers in and the y-pipe would hit against the body not letting me get enough clearence. I gave up because I didn't have the time or patience to take off my Y.
Re: Didn't install poly motor mounts with headers....
i was able to change the mounts with AS&M headers on the car. It is a pain, but it can be done. It would be a piece of cake with no manifold or headers in the way though.
Good luck
Don't even worry about this stuff, nothing is in the way except those headers
Good luck

*Q#!%$#&* i am in the process of changing them out now..... IT IS A PAIN IN THE ***...... but it can be done.... the hardest part is lineing up the 3 bolts that go into the K member.....
Re: Didn't install poly motor mounts with headers....
I dropped the K-member in an attempt to make my initial LT install easier.....well, dropped one side loosened the other -- I recall no problems realigning those bolts...
