Did my engine lock up?

i drove my z28 earlier this morning and it started up fine. then this afternoon i tried to start it and it just clicked hard like really hard. i hope to god its my starter. what are signs of a locked up motor? are there any warning signs? last night the oil pressure was fine and the coolant temp was about 180ish. also it has been starting a little rough. help please.

Your battery probably died. Charge it and see if it fixes it. If not your alternator might have gone out.

Id say battery, if your motor did lock up with no warning, that sucks.

i bought a new alternator and could be the battery or a fuse. i guess i should learn to check the least to most expensive parts first.

yeah like stated check your battery and charging system, then try to turn the crank with a large ratchet- if it turns you prolly need a starter- if not....

Dead battery dude. The click noise is the starter selenoid. You dont have enough batt power to turn the starter completely though.

i wish i had my tools with me. i love it how the day take the tools out of my car it breaks down. wtf. im goin to roll the car back in forth in neutral and see if the starter engages. then a trip to autozone to get the battery tested and hopefully thats the problem.

a) pushing the car is pretty dang hard by yourself.
b) rolling the car will not help. these cars are not like the old days where you push start the car.
c) charge it for an hour, if it even attempts to turn over its not your starter. also means it's not a locked up engine.

I push started mine. Its possible but my problem wasnt the battery, it was the starter. Pushed it up a hill as far as possible w/ a friend, then I got in and he pushed down. Don't try putting it in 1st as it will slow you down to much, put it in second and turn the key wait a little for it to pick up speed then pop the clutch and keep the key turned until it turns over. You have to have the clutch pushed in for it to start so you need to get the motor spinning as fast as possible first then pop the clutch real quick.
