did i hurt anything?

hey,

so i just got home had a little scare. the needle on the gas gauge was low, and hence i was on my way to get gas. i stopped to say hello to a few ppl, then went on my way. got on the main road, gave it a little gas, i'd say 1/2 throttle. shift to 2nd, give the same gas, and nothing. car didn't die, but bogged HARDCORE. i think i'm in 4th, so i hit the gas a little harder, nothing, shift out of 2nd to 3rd and give gas, it bogs for a second then jumps right back up. i stop at the light, and repeat the shifting pattern. everything happens again. car doesn't DIE once, just bogs to the point where i think something serious is wrong. i coast into the gas station, literally, and have 'em dump all the 93 they have into there. i fire it up, drive home, test out the throttle response, first 1/2, then gradually more. problem is gone. did i damage anything very important? thanks!

Re: did i hurt anything?

only thing you hurt is your wallet by filling up at todays prices!

might not hurt to think about changing your fuel filter soon however if you have not done it recently or since the last time you ran out of gas!

phew...

actually this is the 1st time i've run out of gas, i changed the filter right when i got the car (seemed to be general concensus item to change from the get-go). i'll keep an eye on it, it's cheap enough i might just do it again when i change my fuel pump. thanks for the insight!

Its hard on the fuel pumps to run them out of gas. The pump uses gas to help keep it cool. You probably shortened your fuel pump life some.

Re: did i hurt anything?

Same thing happened to me about a year and half ago, let the fuel get too low and stumbled my way to the gas station praying I'd make it. So far no problems at all and the car runs great, now I fill up when only a quarter tank is left. Wouldn't worry about it!
