Did The Fan Mod!!! BUT, Have A Q??????

ok, this may sound stupid, but do the fans blow on the radiator or motor?

just wondering b/c i was planning on using the mod primarily at the track, in the pits or staging lanes when the car is off (thinking the fans blow toward the motor). however, my dad brought up a good point. if the fans blow on the radiator, then he suggested leaving the car running to cool it down. i was like WTF? he said if they are cooling the radiator, then the cool water flowing through the radiator will cool help cool down the motor alot better. if the car is off, no water is flowing through the motor, so your just cooling off the water thats in the radiator.

SO, how do our fans blow? does what my pops said make sense?

They are mounted on the radiator and blow air on the motor.

Their purpose is not to blow on the engine, but to draw air across the fins of the radiator. They emulate the car going down the road and air flowing from front to back.

With the engine off and the fans on, all you are doing is cooling the fluid in the radiator. If you also had an electric water pump, you could run that as well and circulate the coolant throughout the engine. You better have a good battery though, to run both for any length of time with the engine off.

I didn't say that was their PURPOSE, just answering his question, and essentually that is what they do...

2 examples...

1st example. Leave car ON with fans ON, engine gets hot and fans cool off radiator temp a little, engine heats it back up, and soforth. The temp doesn't have time to really "drop" because the engine is still going, producing heat, and making the coolant hot.

2nd example. Leave car OFF with fans ON, cools the radiator temp A LOT in about 5-10 minutes, you start the car and now COLD anti freeze is running through the car while the HOT antifreeze is going through the radiator getting cooled off now. So after about 20 seconds, turn the car off and leave the fans on again (engine coolant now in radiator). Give that 5-10 minutes to cool. Your engine will be a nice temperature when you race compared to example 1.

my 2cents

The fans obviously kill two birds with one stone. Drawing air through the radiator, as well as blowing on the engine.

Although blowing air on the engine wouldnt do anything unless coolant was running though the engine.

ok, thanks. thats what i was thinking. so, i would also assume that its possible it could help cool the motor a little by sucking hot air out of the engine compartment, since the fans are blowing towards the radiator, correct?

Fans draw air into the engine bay, so they're blowing towards the engine.

Your engine bay isnt sealed, so that air just moves through to the bottom under the car.

The fans don't blow "towards" the radiatr, rather pull air through the radiator.

The fans are kind of pointing down at an angle because of the slanted position of the radiator, so they don't really blow so much on the engine. That air circulation is just a by-product of the function of pulling air through the radiator.
