Did auto lt1s have vibeshaft problems..

I have taken my 96 up to pretty high speeds around 140mph and didn't notice any extreme vibation like I did on my old 96 and 97 m6 cars.Is the manual lt1 the only ones that need the 1le or ls1 shaft.Do the auto cars not have this problem???

Would an 1le shaft still pick up 5 or 10 hp though from being lighter than the stock shaft..

It is rare, but auto LT1s can get the vibeshaft problem too. Mine has it, and I know of one other LT1 owner in my f-body club who had it too. In both cases, the cars have 3.23 rear ends, which magnifies any imbalance in the shaft compared to 2.73s.

With me, I notice it beginning at about 80mph, although it's not a major amount there. It's noticeable enough that I would not be able to sustain 100mph highway speeds for very long though, just short bursts.

I had the same vibration in the DS in my 94 M6. I turned it 180* in the U-Joint and the vibration is almost gone.

There is an old Bulletin that covers up though 96 regarding possible DS vibrations. The fix was replaceing with Le shaft. Most here have gone with the Ls1 aluminum shaft. or the Le shaft.

Don't know why the bulletin didn't cover the 97s, but apparently the problem was supposed to have been fixed.

Many had their DS replaced under warranty, but, of course that is not the case anymore.

My 95 had a bad shaft. It started at about 100+ mph at first. A few trips to the track and some hard driving, and it got worse. Eventually it was humming at 80 mph. About 2K miles later, it killed my tailshaft seal on the tranny. (puddles of fluid in the driveway) . At that point I changed the seal and the whole driveshaft to a 1le. I have a tiny leak on the pinion seal now but its not bad enough to worry about. The rearend is coming out soon anyway for 3.73's.

My DS was vibrating at 86mph-135mph, then after that it went a way. A real uncomfotable fealing i might add. I bought a Aluminum one of ebay for $75. No problem now all the way to 155mph

Driveshaft does not give you horsepower, its still behind the same engine . It gets the rpm's up quicker, thats it.

A lighter driveshaft does not give more hp but it does free up lost hp by having less rotating mass.
