should i put new bearings in or not? please give me info

when i broke my spring it messed up my valve stem oil seal (that sits at the bottom of the spring) and messed up my head a lil bit around the spring area.

so my question is should i need new bearings and an oil pump because of those shavings or what should i do? oh yeah also the valve head made its way down to the oil pan to so idk how well that will help out my situation. thanks for your help

should i just do it to be save or will it not matter?

If your vave head is in the oil pan you have a hole in your piston. if that is the case you need a new piston, likely a rod, and I strongly reccomend bearings but you might consider cutting your oil filter open and checking you lifters for scoring to give you an idea if any filings were coming through.

btw. I got 8 pistons and rods in good condition in very Ill sell ya dirt cheap if ya want em.or only one if you want to mesure the bore and have me measure the pistons to find a close match. it would take a week or so though, the part are at my parents house and its 2 hours away from where I live.

well the thing is is that it messed up my number 7 and #5 pistons and the top of my head so i need to get the heads surfaced. and two new pistons. but the thing is when i get those heads surfaced adn maybe the intake to match i might have to enlongate the intake bolt holes i guess i'll just wait and see.

thanks for the offer on the pistons but i already contacted nick norris from nu-tek and he has some used ones for me.

will i need to have my whole motor rebalanced or not?
thanks

no, I dont think its neccessary, you are not changing the weight of the crank or rods and nick is getting you OEM pistons there should be little to no weight difference.

Youre basicly gonna have to disassemble the motor so you may as well freshen it all up. I'm surprised that the valve head made it down to the oilpan without wedging itself somewhere and really making things nasty.

I'd put new Federal mogul bearings in it (main and rods) and of course you'll have to put rings on at least the pistons you replace. I'd disassemble your oilpump and see how worn it is, if its still servicable just clean the snot out of it and add a sttel commored drive for it. Gaskets and fluids would be the only other expense.

Well the factory oilpump is about 50 bucks from GM, but a mellings replacement would be about 20. If the gears are not excessively worn and the cover can be squared up and not excessively scored it can be reused.

Which clevites are they? if they are the Hs they are pricier, but still only about 60 for the mains and 20 for the rods.

If youre running a Melling HV I'd just inspect the cover for flatness and the gear edges for excessive wear and clean it real good and reuse it.
