More than likely you will so no gains from this "mod". May even hurt performance. It's not really restricting the airflow - Check out a search, it's been beaten to death.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Did I say NO?

Either what ibanez6rg said will happen, or you'll end up with a nice service engine light. I know the temptation is strong, but just don't do it.

I did it. Don't know about actual numbers but I can tell you that my throttle response was way better after I did it.

Yeah don't even bother with descreening the MAF. I haven't seen anybody gain anything from doing it. It also can mess things up so its best left how it is. But you can do the TB bypass. It is a free mod that has been proven to add a few hp.

What do you mean by this

By saying no, do you mean no or NOOOOOOOOOOO (that is how I would have said it).

Anyway, do a search and pretty much you will find that you don't want or need to do this "mod".

Drew has a good point. If your looking for some free mods, do the TB bypass. I've done both and not seen a whole lot of difference from either, however the de-screening has the potential to screw up alot more than the bypass. Besides, you can put the hoses back, after I was done the screens wern't going back in the TB.

I just can't stress how much I hate dealing with ported MAFs when tuning a car. You should see what kind of funkyness they do to the air/fuel ratio curve on a dyno.... And really, there is no permanent gain from porting a MAF. At least not on the cars I tuned.

1st 2 mods I did after I bought my car was the TB bypass and descreen the MAF.

After becoming inflicted with the "upgrade bug", I've since rescreened the MAF. I did not notice any change in track performance, or daily driving situations after either change.

While researching more upgrades for my car, I've read several times that people have experienced problems after descreening their MAFs. When I descreened mine, I didn't have any problems, so I figured it would be fine. The final piece of info that convinced me to put the screen back in, was reading a MAF is tuned for your PCM and descreening it can screw up the calibration. I'm not really sure on the whys or the hows, but if Madwolf says it will, I believe him .... considering he has a PCM tuning business.

descreen it. I have desreened lots of MAF's and know lots of people who have. I have never heard of anyone having a problem with it. On most cars the screen is after the filiment, so how would this change anything with the way it reads .... does an intake hurt anything ... ? ... NO ...given it will do little ... but , it is something ... So if you put an intake on and descreen the MAF the ECU will say to itself .. hmmm More air in the form of X amount of ccm, my owner must have put and intake on and .... wait .. whats this .... a descreened MAF too !!! hahaha no way .. its fun, free and cheap .... DO IT !

Oh yeah ..... and as far as someone getting an Engine Check light after descreening a MAF, 99% of the time their fat, dirty fingers touched the filiment !!!! this has been beaten to death so bottom line is ...... no it wont hurt anything .. yes it will do very little !!

Even if it doesn't mess with the MAF/PCM calibration, what if something like this were to happen? I'd be pretty glad the screen was there as MAFs aren't cheap!

Don't bother! I talked to Ed Wright (Fastchip) and he told me not to bother wasting my time!!! The factory MAF flows just fine unless you planning on doing some major mods. But even with my mods he said I should keep it just the way it is!!! I also heard that the screen may help to straighten out the air flow!!
Do the TB bypass instead. It takes all of 10 minutes!!!

Dont waste the time ? ? ? It can be done in 1 min. starighten out the flow ? .... is that why bees fly straight ? the honeycomb mesh should go .... I doubt that gm engineers were concerned about straight airflow when designing the f-body intake ... hahaha
