denting valve covers for alternator
I just ordered some new chrome valve covers for my car since the stock driver side one decided to develop some rot on it. The thing I noticed today while my engine is apart is that the passenger side seems to be dented in from the factory to allow the alternator to fit properly. I'd hate to have to do this to my new valve covers but I don't think there is any way around it, or is there? I was thinking of putting spacers on the alternator to bring it out a bit but then I realized the belt would possibly get thrown off all the time since it wouldnt line up with everything else. So who else has run into this problem and what was your technique for denting the covers? I'm thinking rubber mallet or a board wrapped in rubber or something of that nature. Thanks

I have the chrome GM valve covers on my '94 z28 and had to "modify" the passenger side unit. I took a rubber mallet, placed a shop rag on the end, and proceeded to "modify". Only needed to indent about 1/4 inch at most and it fit perfect. There was no damage to the chrome, and it's hidden from view anyway. Email me if you would like pics.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Jeg's & Summit now have chrome ones for the LT-1's. That's why all the adds for centerbolt valve covers have said "not for LT-1 or LT-5 motors". They have them now though. If you really want some without having to hammer them in check them out. Or just have your stok ones chrom dipped. :
