Is delteq worth it?

$650 seems kinda expensive. What makes them cost so much??? Couldn't you just put one together yourself from various parts, for probably cheaper?

My car is not running well and it seemed to start as nothing too bad...random miss at about 2000-2200 rpms...then the other day is was shaking the whole time for a 5 minute drive. Felt like crap. Anyway, the opti that is on there is less than 20,000 old, but they are unpredictable, new plugs and wires.

I have read that the deltep operates using the opti?? Why is that, because I was under the impression that it replaced to entire use of the opti.

If my opti is the problem will installing a delteq be pointless?? I'm going to have it scanned before jumping to any conclusions because it did throw a code the other day cruising on the highway.

Re: Is delteq worth it?

you dont have to buy everything from DELTEQ. all you need is their Bare Bones Kit, about $350, then you supply the ignition control module, coils, and plug wires. you dont believe in searching for answers do you? have you even been to their website? who would have thought, but its www.delteq.com Most if not all of your questions can be answered there. Good Luck.

As currently configured, the Delteq only replaces the high voltage (cap/rotor) functions of the Opti. It still needs the optical sensor to be functional.

The Delteq needs to know where the crank (rotation) is, and that info comes from the Opti. The Delteq does not need to know where the cam (rotation) is, since it fires 2 cylindes simultaneously, in "waste spark" mode. The Delteq could actually get along with only a crank reference signal. But your stock PCM need the low resolution pulse pattern from the Opti. It uses that pattern to fire the sequential injectors in the correct order, at the correct time. If the PCM does not "see" the low res pulse from the Opti, it shuts down the fuel pump and the injectors.

What Delteq is currently trying to do (I assume) is come up with a synthetic means of generating the equivalent of a low res pulse pattern, without using the Opti optical sensor. When they manage to do that, they can eliminate the Opti completely, but not until.

And what code did it "throw"? If it was the low res pulse signal code, you potentially have a problem with the optical sensor, and would have to replace the Opti before going to the Delteq. Running the Opti without relying on it for the high voltage function seems to extend its life. A couple of us have been running for up to 6 years with the Opti only providing the cam and crank reference signals to an aftermarket ECU, and these are engines that are capable of anywhere from 7,000 - 8,000+ RPM.

Re: Is delteq worth it?

I got their "bare bones" kit for $347 with the valve-cover mount. I got my Ignition Module + 4 coils off eBay for $110 or $120. I bought some Taylor Spiro-Pro wires and cut them to length, I think those were around $50 or so? Total = $507

Looks pisser

Re: Is delteq worth it?

Hell all it uses the opti for is the optical side of it, search around, it's the High-Voltage side that craps out on these things anyways.

Re: Is delteq worth it?

Am I the only person that had problems with the optical side of the optispark? My optical disk was warped not letting it read the disk correctly. The Cap and rotor looked fine.

Re: Is delteq worth it?

My Opti died at 50K miles. The cap/rotor was in perfect condition. The optical sensor was blinded by rust particles from the bearing and the bearing retainer plate.

Re: Is delteq worth it?

My 93 went through about 4 Optis, I then converted it to a 95 opti and it is still going fine 3 years later.

I think though that the Deltec and LTCC are awesome products, the few actual people I have met in person that have either love them to death, both look like quality peices. I myself am going to do the Deltec on my 97 soon. I plan on buying the base bones kit like others have and get the coild and ign module seperately. By chance does anyone have the part # of the ign module to be used with the Deltec?

Search eBay for northstar or aurora v-8 ignition module.

Re: Is delteq worth it?

how come they say to use the northstar module? Doesn't the LS1 use the same thing?

Re: Is delteq worth it?

No, the caddy use one coil for every two cylinders.Meaning, there are two cylinders firing at the sametime. the caddy system only uses 4 coils. the ls1 uses 8 coils, one coil per cylinder.

Re: Is delteq worth it?

Is there any way of putting the LS1 systems. 8 coils seems better than 4 which is better than 1.
