Delteq mpg
Delteq mpg
Wow has my mpg dropped since the delteq. On my crap opti i got a bout 285 miles per tank and now i get about 260 TOPS. The car feels better and pulls MUCH harder but my mpg(even when i'm easy on it) is crap now. Any suggestions??
Re: Delteq mpg
if you are drawing more current from the battery to fire the spark plugs, you are technically going to lose mpg, but i would think this would be insignificant.
I dont think a stronger spark results in better fuel economy as the combustion is an all or none event. This is assuming good plugs and wires.
Some people claim the ltcc gives better fuel economy. There is no wasted spark with that system, but i wonder how much energy actually goes into the spark. If anyone knows the amps and volts, the energy per spark can be calculated, who knows it may be significant.

With or without the Delteq, the original ECM determines the spark advance.
The Delteq simply enables the appropriate coil for the ECM to fire -- the ECM still controls when the coil fires. The Delteq opens a "window" of time for each coil to be fired, the ECM does the firing of the coil.
As far as "waste spark" affecting gas mileage, there are many engines using waste spark (includng the LT5 in the ZR1 Corvette) and none of them have adversely affected gas mileage because of it.

coincedence?...
Re: Delteq mpg
Funny thing you mention this. I noticed something with my wires the other day.
Yea it should have went up, unless something else has happened since.
Let me just tell you what i noticed the other day.....my car is stored. I was chaning the oil because i like new oil when it sits so it doesn't build up sledge and new detergent in the oil helps it clean. But anyway....it's in a shed...and it was very dark. I look at the #8 wire there is this little arc to my valve cover.....I was like WTF. I think it might have something to do with what i had on the wire. I had some of that heat resistant stuff. It's from cool-tec or something......but it was arcing from that to my valve cover.....I don't understand how it can do that with them being brand new wires, unless it builds up a charge inbetween the wire and the wrap i had on it.....it was a lose so there was an air gap.
But anyway, i'm kindof thinking the wires they send with these things are crap.....i'd check to make sure your not getting any arc like me......i never check my MGP cause i was adding other things and i really don't care, but maybe mine went down also--now that i see this arcing.
