Btw when its located on the fan shroud its protected from water or any other debri.
i was thinking about locating it on the valve cover until i saw alex's pics.i think the fan shroud is a cleaner look.

Sounds good an all but I cann't see spending that sort of cash until the opti is totally out of there. Mainly because I haven't hade any opti problems ever and I am still non-vented. My first one I swapped out at 73k miles just because it was rusted up looking and I did a cam change. The setup looks nice though. That coil pack looks similar to the one I had on my Buick Regal that was factory. It went out every few years because it was mounted very close to the manifold even though it had a heat shield. I suppose that makes this more of a personal turn off for me.

Wow - thanks for the compliment, leadfoot!!!

The wires could have been routed cleaner than what I did, but I was more worried about functionality. To each his own pleasure...

I dont see how the v/c mounted coils are under any more temperature-related stress than the stock LT1 coil location. -At least, it's not any worse than the LTCC setup, which typically mounts the coils somewhere above the engine. Time will tell...

lol Sorry alex now that you said you could route the wires differently i understand.id like to route mine like the taylor otvc wires, just right up from the plugs instead of to the front of the header than back.is there any way to mount the pass side wires instead of over the manifold?maybe around the back of the motor?

This is interesting... looks not a whole lot different than the setup I was running 5 years ago, WITHOUT needing the Opti:

Fred -- is that the Electromotive SDI (designed by JC Hyde)? JC Hyde is also the designer of the Delteq. I guess that should not come as a surprise.

Leadfoot -- yes, you can route the wires however you like. If you wish, you could get some universal cut-to-length wires with 90-degree boots on either end, and route them anywhere and everywhere. The wires for the passenger side could be routed behind the intake manifold (like what you can see in Fred's pics above). However, the wires included in the kit are 8mm, so they fit in factory looms if you want to go that route as well.

I dont drive around with my hood open, so I just routed them as easy as I could -- and as safe from heat as possible. I manage to rip off the valvecovers fairly often, so the easier to reach, the better.

Does it seriously look that bad? http://hometown.aol.com/alex94tagt/images/new.jpg

Is there a typical lifespan to the coils? Can you just replace one coil at a time if it were to go bad?

Yes, that is the E'motive Opti-Eliminator/SDI. Yes, I'm familiar with JC and his involvement with both projects. He also worked for Hypertech before E'motive, and developed the HPP.

I've always tried to be on the leading edge with my ignition system.... This is what replaced the O-E/SDI:

Conversely, the LTCC uses eight LS1 coils. Fairly self-explanatory there.

BOTH systems still must use the optical sensor / photo emitter in the optispark. However, Delteq has been working on a solution for that as well (which can eventually be used on either the Delteq or LTCC from what I've read).

You can read about each coil conversion by running a search on this site, as well as visiting their websites, but as I see it, they are both fairly equal. There's a few pros and cons that I see for each:

Delteq:
+Great customer service
+Removes high-voltage from optispark, prolonging opti lifespan (Stage 2 kit in development)
+Complete Kit with choice of mounting hardware and custom ignition wires
+No splicing required
+Uses 4 massively-built coils (instead of 1 stock)
+Uses standard ignition wires (no more opti terminals)
-No built in rev-limiter or ignition retard feature (requires MSD DIS-4 Ignition box for forced-induction/nitrous applications)
-Valvecover mount needs some design touch-ups, which is currently being fixed.

LTCC:
+Great customer service
+Removes high-voltage from optispark, prolonging opti lifespan
+Has a built-in rev limiter and ign-retard feature
+Uses 8 individual LS1 coilpacks (instead of 1 stock)
-Requires some wire splicing
-Requires custom mounting (no mounting hardware included at this point)
-Ignition wires have to be purchased separately

Yes, I've seen that on their 'What's New' page for a while. However, I dont believe it's available yet. (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

Definitely looks sharp ~ hope they dont charge a rediculous price. Though, it'd be worth the cost for the LTCC users out there...

I have this system as well. It is awesome, by the way.

Although, you failed to mention that, Delteq is working on get a carb # for the delteq system. Which, will make legal for use in Ca. I don't believe the LTCC will have this provision, anytime soon...

Question

So here comes the dumb question. For all the people that have after market ignitions setup's that switch over to this ie, MSD, ACCEL, Mallory, etc what do you do w/ it? Can the ignition box be used along w/ the Deltec? I'm switching over next month but I was wondering since I see Deltec doesn't off a rev-limiter and only compatible w/ DIS-4 from MSD.

Thanks.
