Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
Usually I just read alot on this forum, but I actually wanted to share some pics of an install that I'm sure will interest alot of the LT1 owners. Well, I got a little free time and started to put together the DELTEQ ignition setup. I also purchased the billet aluminum bracket to hold the DIS coil towers and had the bracket polished then chromed, also did the same thing to the DELTEQ billet opti cover along with some of the polished MBA items that have been in boxes. I will post some pics of the MBA stuff later when get a chance to take some good pics. You will see some of the stuff in the background with the ignition setup. I did not finish the setup because the custom 9mm red wires were not the correct length, but everything else is done. I think I found my high RPM miss I have had for a very long time. When I pulled the ignition coil wire from the coil it just fell off with the center pin stuck in the factory coil. My car has always had a slight bit of ignition breakup in the high upper rpm range and I thought it was from the in-famous opti, but maybe it was the weak coil wire after all this time ??? I will post more pics later..................enjoy !

Updates: The pics above are from about 4 weeks ago. I have since done some additional upgrades to the DELTEQ setup. One of these days I will stop putting parts on the car and actually drive it. I'm getting ready to install the Dyna-Spark opti and the Delteq billet opti cover that I had chromed. Also, I started replacing the stock Delteq coils with the MSD red coil and interface modules. Hopefully this weekend I will get it finished. I also have to find a nice place to put the MSD DIS 4 along with both MSD tach interface modules. I'm trying to figure out a trick way to mount the items using some polished billet aluminum bracket I'm making for the project.
So much to do and so little time.....

I don't have all the little wiring finished yet, but I'm close. It will look more sanitary by this weekend I will have more pics of the setup when I'm finished.

Enjoy

Re: Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
Your gonna love the delteq, before mine i used to avoid puddles like grim death. I remember there were a few places the instructions could have been alot clearer, but it was pretty simple to do. I remember the coils not fireing, and then realizing the instructions never mentioned to plug in the last part of the harness.
Who makes those valve covers? They look amazing. They remind me of something I saw on MBA's website before they went under.
Do they allow you to run 1.6RR without modifying them?

Re: Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
Valve covers are the LT4 composites, billet pieces down the middle of the valvecovers are the MBA polished inserts & buttons. The car actually has 1.6 RR comps on it. There are no problems putting any 1.6's on a LT1 with the LT4 composite valve covers.
Re: Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
LT4 composites were purchased from GM about 4 years ago. I believe I paid $135 (GM cost at the time) for both ? Yes, the LT4 composite covers are lighter than the stock stamped cover. The 1.6 comp cams roller rockers were purchased from Thunder Racing at the same time as the composite covers and believe the rocker body to be about as light as the stamped 1.5 stock rocker. I paid about $200 something for the rockers ?
Re: Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
Where can i get one of thease set-ups my opti just went out im sick of that crappy thing any info helps or info to concact the company that makes it thanks. and im running a msd digital 6 box will it work with this setup
Re: Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
If you want timing retard & two step with the DELTEQ you will need to get the MSD DIS 4 (MSD digital 6 will not work with the DELTEQ) (4) MSD coil interrupts and (2) MSD tach interfaces (some people just tap into the white wire off the PCM for tach signal). Billet opti-cover & chrome is separate, billet valve cover plate & chrome separate. You may choose to make your own wires for this setup. I used the RED 9MM Elite spark plug wires with heat shielding and numbering on boths ends.
I believe you can get the Delteq system from two places:
www.delteq.com
www.elitesparkplugs.com
DELTEQ has some incredible service if you have any problems. I have called DELTEQ 3 or 4 times and the problems were resolved quick & courteous.

Re: Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
ok was looking at the site and said someithing like all your current opti proublems have to be solved. So since my opti is bad and wanted to run this kit i still would have to buy a new opti to make this kit run
Re: Delteq ignition setup, Round 1
If your opti is bad for sure, you definitely will need to solve that problem before you do anything else to the ignition. You could do a GM replacement or the MSD version of the opti. If you want to bullet-proof the opti I would say Dynaspark or MSD Pro Billet OPTI (who knows when it will be available). I actually purchased the Dynotech billet opti ($600) originally when I started this project. Dynotech has since been sold to Dynaspark
www.dynaspark.net
You don't need to do the DELTEQ billet cover, but it does eliminate the cap on the opti for a nice clean look.

95 T/A the beast, LOL, I'm glad you showed up in this post
Guys/Gals, 95 T/A the beast knows his stuff when it comes to this setup ! If you have not visited his site with photo pics of this same style of install you will be amazed at how good his setup looks !!
I hear ya on the tach modules. I was thinking about returning them to Summit and using the money for something else on the car
Post up a link to some of your pics so people can see how awesome your setup looks
