Delteq + Dynaspark = Awesome

I don't post alot and have been on this board for a very long time. Now I have to give some praise for a couple of products that have totally impressed me! First of all let me explain - I have a LT1 car that quite literally eat's up optisparks (don't ask how many - always cap and rotor failure with no water or oil penetration in the opti), last year I finished my 383 stroker build up and hoped to cure this problem with a new MSD distributor or a stand alone ignition system = (way too expensive for what car is intended) - So now after 3 optis since car was completed I was at my wit's end - so I bit the bullet forked out 1200.00 and bought the stage3 dynaspark and delteq systems. The quality of both products is without a doubt top notch in my opinion ( I am a BMW master tech for a living so I think I'm a pretty fair judge of quality parts) and was very easy to install - The only problem since install is getting use to the car not running out of steam at the 7k rpm shift (I've hit the rev limiter a couple of times - something I never do). Sorry so long- but it takes alot to impress me in the automotive field and would readily recommend this set up to anyone with opti woes.

It's a shame you had to go thru all that trouble, but nice to hear your happy with your new set-up. To this day I can't believe where "they" put the optispark. Bad enough it has problems, but to put it in that location still boggles my mind.

Just curious, was your ignition system stock when you were frying your optisparks? Always wondered if aftermarket coils or such had the potential to shorten the optispark lifespan...

My ignition was bone stock - MSD box or coil all completely stock and it would just eat cap's and rotors. It really bothered me that I see some guy's running around with 100K's original opti's and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why my car would just eat the opti's.

"They" put it there to get rid of the inherent timing inaccuracies cause by shaft deflection of the "normal", rear mounted SBC distributors.

Sure the dowel pin on the cam wasn't too long?

Maybe the delteq has more room in the dowel slot?

It's extremely odd for a car to ruin so many opti's.

I've been running an MSD Blaster coil and 6A for 6+ years with no problems.

I'm completely positive the dowel wasn't tool long on the original stock cam and the comp cam in it now, I check every clearance and have measured every possible voltage and resistance on the entire electrical system. I kind of know what I'm doing as I work on M6' 7series and any other high end german car you can think of for a living. - OK let me explain it this way - The cap and rotor would contiually fail when I disassembled the pieces it was always the same thing - looked like someone had just put 11ty billion volts to the cap and rotor - FYI I'm not the only person who has had this problem, a large number of people have had the same problem with no explanation for the failures.

I hear ya, not baggin' on your skills, just wondering, as it is pretty odd. Glad you got it fixed.

I doubt my oem replacement opti is going to last very long winding up to 6800, but we'll see.

That's cool I understand - I just tend get very passionate about the subject after all the head scratching and frustration the factory setup has caused.

Yep I'll agree anything past 5800rpm the opti wasn't designed to handle, but hey here's your alternative.

I have the Dynaspark too and I love it. It is a finely made piece.
