Disable DFCO and enjoy a "pop" free exhaust

The true dual with X-pipe is going to make more power and may be cheaper than a lot of aftermarket cat-backs. If it's dumped underneath the car expect some droan and resonance at cruise.... which is a lot worse than "pops" IMO. Of course running it out the back costs more and adds a bit more weight, and may restrict you to 2.5" pipe (more than enough for most apps anyway) depending on how much work they want to put into it.

Wow. My car with just headers/cat/cutout sounds WAYYYYYYYY better than ANY Mustang I've heard. Its nice and deep and gets to screamin @ WOT. I've had so many compliments from random people and friends that ride in my car.

Like one of my friends said best, "Damn. Your car sounds like its mad at the world!"

Also, every exhaust pops, buts it just gets more noticable once you start putting on louder exhaust.

Well, I'd love to hear your car.
Don't get me wrong, I'm Chevy to the bone...but Ford did something right in the tone of the Mustang. I'll say it again, I've yet to hear an LT1/LS1 even come CLOSE to SOUNDING as good as a Mustang.

But of course, who's listening to the Mustang that's in their review anyways?

5.0 & especially 4.6L Mustangs do sound very good IMO(better than most V8's), but I got to be honest, I personally like the sound of the LT1 F-body better(with the right set-up). It just has that super deep/throaty tone that most Mustangs that I've heard don't quite have. It could go both ways, but the LT1 is my favorite sounding domestic V8.

personally I have yet to hear an LT1 sound as good as my brother in laws Mustang did...H-pipe, flowmaster mufflers, hooker headers...thing sounded WICKED. True Duals on LT1's come really close, but still not the same. Single exhausts on LT1's IMO aren't near as nice. I sometimes feel like I'm trying to pick out the lesser of the evils...

I've got the LM with SLP shortie headers, and have the cats on there, and it sounds really good. I get compliments wherever i go and people are always asking what i've got. It is loud inside the car and everyone who rides in it asks how i can always drive it, but trust me it's worth it. I had one of my friends take it for a spin and let me hear how it sounds, and it makes up for any interior noise when you hear how nice it sounds from the outside. It mainly pops when cold, or downshifting, and as far as the sound as compared to a mustang, well the mustang sound is really nice, i'll give them that, but i'm a chevy fan, and the LT1 is so much deeper sounding then any mildly modified mustang. Sometimes i get the idea to get a different exhaust and quiet it down a bit, but this is a muscle car, it is supposed to be loud and annoying to your neighbors. If you want to stand out, and be heard from a half mile away, and be the talk of the town all the time and be the farthest thing from a sleeper, then get the LM and wake that monster up.

I can not believe no one has mentioned the SLP 2OTL. It is the deepest, most refined sound I have ever heard from an LT1. I absolutely can not stand borla. On all the LT1's I have heard it on, it sounds exactly like a LS1 I recently had a friend video tape me launching my car and when I heard my car, OMGISM. I did not know it sounded that good. If you want, I could send you the video, or I think there is a link to a friends site it is uploaded on, but I will have to find it.

Oh yea, there are no pops what so ever, but I do have stock y-pipe and cats.

Yea, send me the video or find me a link! I'd like to hear it.

And, I'm so glad to find out that I'm not the only Fbody owner out there that hates BORLA!

You know whats funny is I have three friends with mustangs. One has a 98 Rousch, the other a 97 GT with a Bassani X-pipe, and the other has a Heads/cammed 5.0 with headers and a 3" X-pipe.

They all think that my car sounds better than theirs. Only the one with the 5.0 is as loud as mine. He is the only one that I can hear pull up next to me at a light. But they all envy how mine sounds.

I guess you do have to hear it It's unbelievable. I can't wait till I get my heads/cam and run it with this same exhaust.

Later,

Brian

Mustangs sound good and all, but if you like that Winston Cup sound like myself, look no further than the LT1. The last one I heard with the hotcam kit had a sound that would make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. I have MACs with the Hooker Aerochamber and it has a very defined tone with no raspiness. It's VERY deep too.
