Decided to go with a GM sbc 400 bow tie block and dart pro 1 platinum aluminum heads.

I was going to go the LT1 396 route, but after analyzing my budget, and what I want, I will go the sbc route. I've already found the heads for $1120, the block is $1549, and the custom cam is $400. The heads come fully assembled with my choice of springs, which will be chosen after I get the cam ground. I will use the pro ram intake, and will stick to eagle rotating assembly at around 11.5:1.

I am not exactly sure why I posted this. Just very excited.

Make sure the valvetrain is good...some of the assembled jobs leave a lot to be desired.

Good luck.

Yeah, you won't be posting in here any more, since it's not an LT1.

Logical choice...
Do the heads flow in the 300+CFM range?
Why not convert the heads and run them on the LT1 instead of changinng the radiator? Cost is about the same.

Thats a good question. Probably because of the versatility of the 400 block. I am getting the 400 block brand new for about the same price it would cost me to get an LT1 turned into a 4-bolt and blueprinted.

What would it take to convert the heads?

Right, but what kind of machine work?

I figured all it would need is to be decked and I would want a little bigger bore for a 427 displacement.

By all means, please convert me back to an lt1 block.

Whats the ultimate goal?

4 bolt mains is kind of over rated...I never seen a 2 bolt breal or fail b/c it was a 2 bolt.

One good thing about a LT1 is you can get by with alot more compression. You could run those heads converted to LT1 and a dome piston.

Haven't decided on fuel delivery yet. I am debating on the TH400 or TH350 trans. Do people still use M6's in the 10 second range?

don't waste your time....noone makes a legal nhra bellhousing anyway

400 is a proven winner.

350 is too but it may or may not last....
