decelerating pop........flame, bad thing or normal?

I have noticed here recently if I get on the gas hard when I let off it pops, once or twice ussually. Well, today I had a friend behind me (it was still dark outside) and he said he seen a blue flame come out the turn downs. I was wondering if it is normal to have a flame or if maybe my rockers are a little to tight? I always thought it was just because I had duals is why it would pop but now it's got me wondering. I bought the summit x-pipe so it would have a somewhat equal back pressure and hopefully not pop. One other thing, I have a small exaust leak at the headers/head...............and a small leak where I scrubbed on a speed bump. I don't think the one at the flange would make much diferant but I know the one at the head is causing me to run a little rich. TIA.

I assume you don't have cats? I think the exhaust leak at the mani could make a difference...I know if I let off high in the rpm's I get a pop or 2

Most likely due to a rich condition. Mine did that when I used to have the CC305 and no tuning.

The flame is because you have no cats......it happens on deceleration.....or like in my buddies 4.3L S-10 when he down-shifts. I bet you have pretty high miles also.....my buddy has 230,000 miles on that s-10 she blows fire like 6 inches easy.....it's quite funny. She still runs good too. It should only happen on deceleration though. Mine pops up top too when you let off suddenly. Your probably using a 3" diameter exhaust also correct? If so i'd say it's the norm.

I don't know a great deal about cars like you guys, though I thought deceleration pop was caused by a lean condition in the idle circuit ?!

a few years ago I had a 1999 Honda Shadow ACE 1100 and they notoriously popped on deceleration...the fix was to put slightly bigger idle jets in the carbs...problem 100% solved...it would run rich in idle a little though but the plugs never fouled out.

I suppose a Vtwin carburated motorcycle and a fuel injected v8 are two totally different beasts and this post is just plain ignorant...lol

I hear that the six speed camaros are the ones that pop...my a4 does not

Yeah real high miles...............about 5000 . I built the engine about 6 months ago. I have 3 inch at the collectors reduced to 2.5 all the way back to the turn downs. Mine is the same as yours, happens when I'm at higher RPM's and let off suddenly. I guess it's normal.

Yeah, my car does the same when I rev up high and let off . I thought it was because I dont have a cat. Seems to be the norm.

I get high rev pops, but it never has let out a flame that I know of. My computer is stil tuned for the previous motor (396) right now, that is why it does it though. I need to get it tuned, and it won't do it so much, but I like the sound of it so I hope it stays a little bit.

bump up the DFCO numbers have the fuel completely shut off on DECEL and no more pops, my setup never makes a peep, any decel sounds very clean cuz I completely shut off the fuel.
