Dead OBD port!

My car flashed the SES light at me yesterday, so I stopped by autozone on my way home from work to get the code read. Anyhow, the tech hooked up his scanner, and it stayed blank (car was off).. He tested the scanner on his own vehicle, and it worked fine.. Since the car runs OK I'm assuming that the problem isn't the PCM .. so I think it must be wiring or the connector. Just wondering if anyone here has any insight on what the problem might be.

Re: Dead OBD port!

Might help if you post the year of the car. If it is a 1995, AZ won't be able to help you.

Re: Dead OBD port!

correct..... i have a 95 Z28 and I work at autozone. The 95's have an OBDI computer with an OBDII port in the kick board....its quite the bitch but its what GM decided to be stupid with.

Re: Dead OBD port!

being a 96 im 100% sure it should have an OBDII computer with an OBDII port..... therefore should work.. You might have to take the kick panel off and make sure there aren't any wires that are unplugged from the back of the port..

Check all your fuses too. This happened to a buddy of mine.

I agree. If the scanner taps power from the DLC and there is none, it won't work. The usual tell-tale sign is if your cigarette lighter does not work. It is on the same fuse as the lead in the DLC.
