Dead battery and Security light

I drove my car home from work today without a problem. A few hours later I got in to go to the store and it wouldn't start - barely a click. I jumped started it and it started up okay, but since it wouldn't start the security light is on. Does anyone know why?

If the computer doesnt read the key, the security light will come on and the engine will not crank or start. There is a 3 minute timer and then the security light will go out and you can attempt to start the car again. If you put the key in and turn real real fast, it will do this. What I do is put the key in, wait a half second, then turn. Hasnt happened to me again.
