DCR to shoot for?

I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger cam. Probably a custom cam, similar to the LE cams in rpm range. Aggressive lobes, replacing most of valvetrain, etc.. What's a good DCR to shoot for? Not a DD, mods in sig. I dyno at 375 rwhp now, would like to see at least 400. Thanks!

Check around in the Advanced Tech section for more threads on this. 8-8.5 is safe for street motor. 9 is the upper limit. I'm running 8.7 with a 355 street/strip motor with 11.5:1 SCR.

Well, let me say this once.....

GET THE CAM CORRECT FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH THE CAR!!!!

Then figure out what SCR you need and use the DCR to guide you where to go. You don't have to push the DCR to the edge to make something run bad ***. If you are looking at a custom cam then working with whoever is doing the cam for you will get you where you need to be with everything else as long as you ask.

If all you want is 400rwhp, fixing the valvetrain is going to get you most of the way there. Some of the old GTP heads are excellent and they should be able to support that kind of power.

400 rwhp isn't really "all I want". I want the car to perform well under 6200-6500 rpm range. I don't want to spin the hell out of the motor due to lack of resources($$) at this time. I'd rather power under the curve than peak dyno #s. I could possibly stroke it to 383 and/or turbo, but not anytime in say the next 1.5-2 years. Probably looking for a mid range-small duration cam with aggresive lobes. Something that builds power quickly in the 2500 rpm range and plateaus out to 6200-6500 rpms. Not necessarily dying off after, but I'd like to at least see peak #s. Know what I mean verne?

Not hard to do with the right cam.... no shelf cams are going to fit that very well. The big 847 and 306 are both going to be better at peak numbers than they are at average and down on TQ from the right cam.
