this darn x pipe!!!

hey guys. these should be my last 2 questions about this car before it finally hits the road. 1) Just installed my pacesetter longtubes, and i'm trying to run my 3 inch x pipe exhaust. the passenger side was cake to install to the header. the drivers side well.........SUCKS. i have 0 clearance between the header to the slip fit connector, under the fuel lines, and to the x pipe itself. do you guys who have 3 inches with slip fits and NOT flanges, if it matters, know how to clearance this frame? can i move the headers down somehow?
also, i noticed today while under the car for the 75th time in a month, that under this flap(not sure the name sorry) which has the coolant resivoiar stored above it, that there is another tank. i have no idea what it is but i do know it is completely broken. it has a single hose connection to it what is this???

The small tank is a vacuum reservoir for the HVAC system. If it's broken, you've got a vacuum leak. Have it repaired or blocked off.

I took a angle grinder with a thin cut off disk, and made a cut on ether side of the pipe, and removed the cross piece or frame in that area

my pacesetters were aimed at the frame or cross member on the drivers side

thanks both of you. i was also going to notch the frame with a grinder but was scared it would make the car weaker. i guess thats the draw back of 3 inches instead of 2.5. i do have one more question. i broke the plastic pipe that runs from the r/h side of the intake manifold to the other side into the rubber hose that is splined with the fuel lines. should i replace, it or can i delete this as well?

Sounds like you broke the EVAP line. Is it one of the lines shown here:

No "splines" involved, but it is bundled with the fuel supply and return lines.

Without the EVAP purge system, fuel vapor will build up in the charcoal canister in the driver's rear fender, and eventually beging to cause a fuel smell.

Umm, you do know these are unibody cars right? I assume that's why you were concerned that cutting the ribs would make the car weaker. Well, you're absolutely correct. Don't cut the car to make the exhaust fit...it's just asking for long term issues.

For the record I run Jet-Hot longtubes with a 3" y-pipe. It fits under the car well and if you want it to fit tighter against the body you can splice in these: http://drgas.mybisi.com/product/frame-clearance-tubes

These guys have all sorts of oval tubing as well....

my sub frame connectors are making up for any strength, that I might have lost due to cutting the brace.
