Gd F'n Brake Pads!!!! Help!!

so i m changing the pads on the FR brake last night and i get everything put back together and bolt the wheels on and their scraping on the outer pad bracket!

i just got stock OEM pads that were the same as the ones i had on before. i have weld pro stars with the correct spacer and like i said, i had no problems with the old pads.

so WTF is the problem??

Q: can i just cut off those brackets?? the pads seem to stay in place fine with just those two little nubs in the wholes. do i really need those little brackets??

please help!!

Yes, you do need the little brackets. Try this. Get in the car and press down on the brake before putting the wheel back on. That will tend to seat the pads and position the caliper on the rotor in its "normal" position. - When you push the piston in and reinstall the pins with new pads, the outboard side of the caliper may be closer to the back side of the wheel.

I'm not sure what ProStars you are running, but when I use my 3.5" skinny prostars on the front I run a 5/16" spacer (as do most others) and have no clearance problems with relatively new pads.

New pads push the caliper out further and this is the reason it is hitting now and didn't before.

yes, but do you have any suggestions on how to fix it??

im thinking about these "universal" spacers they have at pep boys maybe trying those. the only thing is, they dont tell you exactly what cars they fit on. but their only like 10 bucks so i might try it. anybody had any experience with those???

please help!!

have to drive to work tomm!!!!!!!

Since it sounds as though you are not running any spacers, pick up the spacers I was talking about. I believe I have seen them at Pep Boys as well... pretty much "universal" as you said..

The ones I have are 5/16" and fit lug patterns 4.5" - 5"

We have 5 by 4.75" lug patterns, and the above fit and work great.

Again, I have no idea what ProStars you are running, but my 3.5" wheels stick out a bit w/ the spacers, but such is life to go fast

i am running Weld Wheel Pro Stars. and i have 5/16s spacers on the car now!! thats whats driving me crazy. i dont know why its not fitting.

i was thinking about ADDING the pep boys spacers ON TOP of the ones i already have. dont know what else to do?? i dont know if that will be safe or not, but ive got to do somthing.

just got off the phone with a friend. said he has some spacers hes not using of of s-10 that should work, so i might try those as well.

any other suggestions as far as removing/grinding/modding this to work?????

The only thing I can figure is that your brakes were worn down some when you put your wheels on for the first time. Now that you have new pads and the caliper bracket sticks out further, you have an interference problem. Guess you needed a bigger spacer all the time.

so doubling the spacers on each side wont cause a problem saftey wise?? as long as its ok, i think thats what im going to do.

thanks, jon

The primary problem with larger spacers is if you have enough lugbolt to have sufficient threads in the lugnut.

If you do, then I don't see a problem, but many I know have had to install larger lug bolts to have enough threads to tighen the wheel safely.
