danger in having TOO big of injectors?

im looking for 30 lb injectors for my 383 which should make around 400rwhp, 400rwtq. What would the disadvantage be to putting 36 lb injectors? I can get a set for pretty cheap, but didn't know if it was a good idea or not. I'm guessing not, but dont know why....

The PCM will not be able to be as precise with the larger injectors at lower engine speeds. This could be an issue if you have emissions testing. Other than that, it's not a big deal if you have have a good tune on a wideband-equipped dyno.

Might run a little rich, but a good tune should fix that.

If you go too big, the pcm may not be able to bring the pulse width small enough to idle. This rich condition can cause cylinder problems with washing down and galling. Follow the universal formula for injector sizing and DON"T buy Accel injectors.

and me...and I'm running 48lb Accels! No idle issues here.

Sounds like a generalization to me. Maybe he should have said..."Accels didn't do it for me, your mileage may vary".

I have a set of 36# (or 37#...one of the two) Delphis I bought from Racetronix on mine right now. I haven't noticed any idle problems, but I also had my PCM reprogrammed when I installed them, so I guess that makes the difference.

I run SVO 42 with no problem in my 383 Stroker. I have noticed a little cam surge under 2,000rpm but I have herd that is normal with a big cam.

I have 50# ers in mine right now and with stock heads and a small cam, I think the 50# ers are over kill but I figure once I get it dyno tuned and add a few minor mods later, 42#ers may not cut it...But I drive my car ~600 Miles a week with no problems. My car was Street tuned by Bryan at PCMforless. I do notice some black soot on the bumper above my exhaust but I am sure once I get my header leak fixed and have the car DYNO tuned, all of those problems will go away. I get about 14 MPG in stop and go driving and 18MPG in Highway driving (See link in sig) for what I have done, I think that is great.

Thx,
Claude

I am going with 42lb SVO's and I am not worried about it.

95 Silver TA - I just bought a set of AFR LT4 220 heads, hoping to making around 500 rwhp(stroker, solid roller, blah, blah) and the 42 lbs should be fine...way overkill for you.

You may want to check the Forced Induction section...
Lots of guys in the past maxed out 50# injectors as soon as they hit around 520-540RWHP...So If you plan to go above 500RWHP You may want to reconsider. I talked to more than a Dozen guys before I went with my 50# ers who all told me they ran out of fuel at the mid 500RWHP range with 50# injectors and not one of them recommend that I stay with 42#ers unless I planned to run High FP. You should seriously look in the forced Inductions section before making a decision, this has been discussed there many times before, as a matter of fact, Here is a post from this week:

Hope that helps and good luck on what ever you decide with.
