I have a Flowmaster and I think getting a cut-out is a good idea. I had one when my car was almost stock, and it sounded great. I left it open all the time. It was loud at first, but I got used to it. Then I insalled Hooker LT's and got rid of my cat's. Now a open cut-out is too loud for me to drive around with.
did your gas mileage change with the cut outs i have a flowmaster 80 ser. and hooker shorties headers and a high flow cat do u have the screw cutout or motor one how much are they what size would i get tell me what ever else i need to know or should know thanks
but gas miles?????

in general, a free-er flowing exhaust increases gas mileage. i know i picked up almost 2 mpg by going with a cat back (cut out installed already) and leaving the cut out open.
flowmaster is considered one of the most restrictive cat backs around (highly debated issue...flamesuit on). and even with a free flowing exhaust there have been several guys dynoing gains of 15+ hp with a cutout open.
most people have the standard flange style, mine is just before the axle and i can remove/install the cap in about 2 minutes without much hassle. as far as i know the electric ones are quite expensive. ranging i think from around $175-300, an i think you have to have the standard flange cutout to install it on...ie...the eletric ones don't come with the actual piece to be welded in.
summit sells the flowtech cutout (link in my sig), as does tbyrne and thunder racing, 3" for around $35 or so.
side note:
shorten your sig, the lenght is only supposed to be 5 or 6 lines, but the moderators don't usually enforce this, but you have alot of extra stuff, streamline it down...thanks...

Asking "is it too loud" is completely reletive....that's like asking a group of chefs if something is too spicy. My mom thinks my car is WAY too loud /w my cutout, but I think it's perfect. Everyone has their own taste. Me, personally, I can never go too loud. Other people think stock is too loud.....
i installed mine just in front of the axle! and with lt1 with factory manifold and cat it just sounds like a car that the muffler fell off of! when your driving normal! when your on it it sounds great!
i also have the borla which is a cut out basically when its open but its at the rear bumper! you will lose a little torque when you open your exhaust but up top is where youll gain it!
last month when the club dynoed i never opened mine between runs! but there is a ls1 with just bolt ons.. headers, etc.etc. and he gained 27 hp when he opened his!!
ofcourse thats on the highside (but awesome!)
it will rattle the hell out of the interior of your car! i could damn near shake the change out of my ashtray in my t/a when driving
