cutout question

My 93 Z28 is completely stock and i wanted to make it a little louder and not put alot into it. I don't know much about cutouts and was wondering if they are worth it. Do they go right befor the cat or what? I only have one cat on my car. And are they worth it? Or should i put a different exhaust system or muffler on?

Do it after the cat..lose alittle torque but get high end power.

will a cutout add quite a bit of noise. I just want it for on the streets, not the track. And would it slow the air flow down very much? And would they screw up anything with the computer?

if you want to have it open alot of the time (it's addicting trust me) i would suggest putting it farther back on the exhaust. if you put it up near the Y pipe, you'll have ALOT of interior resonance, so much taht you probably wont be able to listen to the radio on normal cruising!!

typicaly people install them just before the exhaust turns to go over the axle. it will give you fantastic sound and a nice 10 hp gain (some see more).

another cheap thing to do if you arn't too worried about being able to quiet the exhaust down from time to time (ie..capping the cutout) you could just have the muffler replaced by a bullet muffler. that would give you an aggressive sound, slightly more muffled than the cutout and the interior noise wouldn't be as bad since the exit would be in the back of the car.

which bullet muffler is a good one to go with for noise and price? I like my car loud except when i'm cruising on the freeway or highway for long trips. Then i like it quiet. Loud acceleration=very good.

any straight flow bullet muffler is fine. look into summit or jegs and look for dynomax, or you could go for polished stainless and buy an expensive Borla..

my cutout is right before the axle, the sound during acceleration is fantastic, but LOUD. on the higway i have no complaints...i don't even need to have the radio on much above 1/3 to be able to enjoy it (not a loud stereo freak). so highway is very nice.
