Question Cutout, CAI, or 3" pipe. What would you do?

I have an 80 series Flowmaster and a K&N air filter. I have my stock, rectangle tips coming off the Flowmaster. I was told I should get a 3" pipe from the cat to the muffler for better flow. What would you get for performance?

1) Cutout (if so, will I pass inspection in TX?)

2) K&N CAI (if so, it replaces the air filter right?)

3) 3" pipe from cat to muffler (if so, will it be louder?)

start with 1 & 2. I recently passed our IL inspection with the cut out closed. They didnt really give a 'visual' like theyre supposed to, but, from what I understand they cant really do anything if its closed.

If your going to get a catback. I'd hold off on the cutout and stick with the CAI.

I live in Houston and I have a cutout. Passed inspection twice so far with no questions. Actually, with the cutout closed it is really hard to notice what it is.

I personally prefer the Moroso CAI over the K&N.

I also installed a 3" pipe, but the stock pipe is already almost 3". I couldnt tell any difference with this install...

I too agree on the Moroso over the K&N. Looks better too. As for the cut-out, what can they say if it is closed? Also you live in Houston, there are over 1000 shops on the south side that wouldnt even think twice about it.
I gained 15 RWHP and 19 RWTQ going with a Flowmaster Y-Collector and 3" Exhaust pipe to the cut-out from the headers. If you dont have headers, you wont see much of a gian. Just stick with the 3" cut-out. I beleived I gained 20 RWHP and 21 RWTQ with the Moroso, 3 " Cut-out and Mezeire W.P.

Summit Racing 3" Cut-out $26.97 part number SUM-G4822
Moroso C.A.I. $189.95 part number MOR-65845
1-800-233-3030
$7.95 Handling Fee, and free shipping.

What are your goals with your car? If it is 1/4 mile racing click on the TA in my sig and follow lead. Heading in the 12.6xx's with bolt-ons still.

This is my set-up.

Headers to a ORP to a cut-out to a custom straight pipes exhaust.

I swap the ORP and the cat when i take my emmisions...

The car is obxously loud however...

My goals are more HP and better flow. I think I will look into a CAI first. Then possibly a cutout.

Do tips make any difference in sound or performance, or simply looks? I still have the rectangles for the stock look.
