Jus ordered my headers and cutout, i am planning on putting the cutout rightbefoire the cat at the end of the y-pipe. Will there be enoough backpressure for the engine to function properly? will this cause any problems besides rediculously loud noise?! thanks

 

It will be fine. Your torque range will change and you'll lose any lowend torque you may have but the added flow will more than make up for it in the high end.

haha couldnt tell ya exactly,. The previous owner had it on my car so i left it. It has 3" mandrel bent tubing from cat to muffler, pro-flo muffler, and 2 4" chrome tips. Looks real good and sounds close to a flowbastard, but open cutout will be way better!

 

Install your headers, and Y pipe. Leave the cat off and take it for a ride. Then decide if you want to do that. I think you will find that it is pathetically loud and obnoxious. And will also run like crap.
But hey you never know, it could sound and run great. I would definately test it out before doing it though.

 

I would liek to weld everything up first, at my neighbors house because i do not have welder. then i can bolt it all togetehr myself. I still think im gonna put if before the cat, the low end torque i will lose will help my traction off the line, right? thats all i need...Besides if it doesnt work out, i can always cap it! thats the point of a cutout!

 

I disagree with losing the torque, but everyone in different regions/altitudes have different results, including no tow cars run the same. The majority of results here in TX are great and most even run long tube headers with cutouts on the ypipe and do not lose torque but gain it and rwhp, both low and top end.

 

I agree with him. Open headers are just way way too loud. They don't sound all that good either. That's not including the thought of being pulled over all the time for noise violations. Put it on after the cat if you really want a cutout.

 

I'm going to do the same thing. I've already got the headers and no cat. But it exits at the back of the car. I want to add a cutout where the cat should be, just for sound. Then I'll move my electric cutout up to the new cut out and block off my Borla.
