Cut out and pullies

i see that a bunch of people have cut outs are there any down sides to a cut out, what kind of gains can i expect from a cut out, and also i dont see that too many people have power pullies why is that?

Not really any disadvantage to a cutout, unless you count the fact that you could get pulled over for sound . Advantages are about 10hp. Also, cutouts really lose their most their functionality once you move to a high flow catback.
Most people don't have power pulleys because you really don't see much gain. Look here. . Plus they're a PITA to install as well, so most people don't bother.

What about if you go with the alt. and water pump pulleys also? That sheet is just for the crank pulley.

I cant really think of any down sides to a cutout. I just installed my electric one, and I love it. When you open it up it really gets alot of attention.

Re: Cut out and pullies

there really is only one downside to a cutout that i can think of, and that is the way it rattles the **** out of our interior as if it wasnt bad enough without a cutout. yeah i would say about 10hp and a badass sound is what you get. not bad for 30 bucks and about 30bucks for an install

The water pump is not belt driven, but cam driven. Also, with the underdrive alternator pulley you are effectively making the alternator pulley spin at the same speed as you did before the underdrive crank pulley was installed. Some people get the smaller alt. pulley so that the alternator continues to charge as it did normally, since its overworked as it is. So technically you would not gain as much hp if you added in the underdrive alt. pulley. Though I don't think it would be much.

Re: Cut out and pullies

They should make an overdrive pulley for our overboosted p/s pumps.

Re: Cut out and pullies

I'd recommend DMH Performance . Good operation, plus a 4-year warranty. One 3" cutout is $179.

The electric cutout is around $150 . I got the other one what you can control mechanicaly from the dashboard for $25.00 on e-bay. If you want to save some $$ than get the mechanical one. But if you are floating on $$ go for the electrical one. Up to you. They are same good.

How does the mechanical one work from the dash?

Re: Cut out and pullies

Pulleys are a good mod. They still add HP and Torque. Most guys skip them becasue they aren't that helpful on your electrical system. That graph on the other page showed "0.7 horsepower and 5.1 ft/lbs torque" That's 5.1 lbs of torque that's a nice gain to have... HP isn't everything... It's HP that gets your engine movin...but it's torque that gets you down the track.

Are you sure you don't have that backwards?

No. The "underdrive" alternator pulley is a larger diameter and slows the alternator down even more than the U/D crank pulley alone would. I ran the ASP 23% U/D crank pulley with their 15% U/D alternator pulley, and it really killed the alternator at idle. March offers both an U/D alternator pulley (larger than stock) to slow down the alternator further for more HP gains (minimal) or an O/D alternator pulley (smaller than stock) in their "power and amp" series, to restore alternator output for high power audio systems. Of course the O/D alternator pulley takes away some of the power savings.

To me, it wasn't worth the charging problems at idle. I do still use the ASP U/D pulley with my ATI Super Damper, to keep the alternator speed down a little when the engine is at 7,400rpm redline...

Re: Cut out and pullies

What Injuneer is saying is very true... I killed my Stock Altinator because of my pullies. There's nothing else on my altinator robbing serious power (no stereo).
