anything that modifies the exhaust to be louder than stock is technically illegal but unless you get pulled over by a dick cop while you have it open you should be alright.

electric vs manual is a preference thing. the manual is a mere fraction of the cost of the electric one, though the electric is more convienent some people have had problems with the motors burning out on them

This might be true in some states, but definitely not all. My exhaust is much louder than stock and it's perfectly legal. Usually there is a dB limit, typically around 90.

in my 00 i had stock headers, flowmaster catback, and a cutout on the front of the catback(right before the y pipe)
i had the electric one, but it sounded so nice/not loud enough i just left it open. never put the electric peice on.

No... just don't put it too close to the O2 sensor(s) and it will be fine. You should probably put it about a foot back or more behind the O2 sensor to avoid problems.

(there are O2s just after the cats if its a stock OBDII setup, but only the ones in the manifolds/headers if its an OBD1 setup)

My cut out is just in front of the muffler for the most part. Im thinking about putting the cap back on it though. There is something vibrating in the car thats getting on my nerves. lol

I only asked if it would hurt the engine cause someone said something about burning out the motor.

I LOVE my cutout. I have an electric one, it is great because you can have it open and when you see a cop close it and become quiet, or scare the **** out of ricers at stop lights. My cutout is place in I pipe before the axle, right under the rear seat on the passenger side.

Thats fine where it is, and it will not do any damage to anything. Thats an old myth, and I can't even figure out why it would have started. If it were even remotely true, it would apply to all the guys running with open longtubes as well.

Yes, the little electric motor that moves the block-off plate in an electric cutout can burn out and get damaged just by road debris. Its will not cause any damage to your engine though.

I have one and it's amazing. Can be loud and turn heads when I'm driving, or close it and sound quiet. But after you drive around with it open then close it, you'll be disappointed with your cars stock exhaust note :P

I agree 100% w/ the above comment. I like it "cracked" most of the time, but will pull up next to rustangs opening it more and more as I come to a stop.

Dude in a '05?? Cobra didn't want anything to do w/ me..
