Re: custom grind cam

The "ASA" cam is a 239/251 .570/.570 106.5 LSA

It's a bit big.

Re: custom grind cam

a good cam is only as good as the heads will allow.

on a stock headed car, you can only pull in and release so much air....in which means the "big" cams will not do you any good.

if you want to make good power, look into something along the lines of the comp306, which will net you around 350-360 to the wheels on a stock headed car, depending on if you are a manual, auto, and have aftermarket gears and full boltons.

Re: custom grind cam

so a 306 would be a good cam for you. The 306 loves n2o.

Re: custom grind cam

Why does everyone think a cam with a wide LSA and lots of exhaust duration always like N2O... if the cam gets less air into the cylinders then it gets less N2O in as well... IMHO a CC306 is not the best thing to get for stock heads, but what do I know.

Come on Bret, I would love to know what the ideal cam/head combo is for
a CA smog legal car with the following:

M6 w/3.73s
stock bottom end
6,000 rpm shift points
no N2O
mid length headers w/full exhaust (cats and muffler)
daily driver w/rush hour traffic
as wide and flat a torque curve as possible
plus all the other crap on my mods list except for the cam and heads. LOL

Re: custom grind cam

Truedual....

Ideal would be no emissions. You can't get IDEAL in terms of power with those constraints.

You probably wouldn't like the peak numbers on a setup like that but you could have a doable TQ curve with something like that..... It would just take a lot of other good parts in concert with the cam to work properly.

Shoebox,

I wish I knew everything that I don't know so I would know everything that I don't.

Either way, as I said in Advanced Tech, I don't like being under my own car so I am thankfull for what you know so that I can make my time under my car much lower.

Re: custom grind cam

Now if the ASA is off-the-shelf, it's not a "custom" cam is it? Let's be clear about this: a custom cam is a cam that is custom made for a custom mer, specifically ground to the specifications determined by the grinder or the custom mer for a particular application.

Re: custom grind cam

Is this ASA cam the cam they used in the American Speed Association?
