Custom grind??

I have been looking for a new cam for my newly rebuilt motor (355). I was running the hotcam, but am off for bigger and better things. The heads are stock castings but fully p&p with 285/210 at .600 lift. I need a bad *** cam to make real good power and have some streetability. It wont be a trailer queen. I was looking at the gm847, but was wanting to see if I could gain more by using a custom grind. I called comp, and they recommended 230/236 w/ .622/.624 lift. He said that the flow numbers on the heads were really good and would make good power w/this setup. But then I told him about ppl making over 400rwhp w/ the gm847 and he didnt believe me. He seemed to think that I would make better power with a smaller duration, but higher lift than the 847. I need some help. PLEASE!! I want to get my car back together here soon. Any help is appreciated.

Joe Overton. You'll pay more, but it's probably worth it. Someone else can chime in.

I have one of his cams in my 383. I launched from idle, short shifted at 6k then let off at the 1000' in a 25mph head wind. Car went 11.70's @ 101mph. 1/8 7.33 @ 94mph. With 3.73 gears and a little more tire car should go 11.0 all day long.

Went to the website, but can't find anyway to get ahold of him via email. I don't know if I should just call or what.

Benji, Joe Overton's screen name here is JOES94TA. Try a PM or email. I would really recommend that you speak to him. He will give you a custom cam just for your application.

Nothing against Joe, but other options for a custom grinds are Phil at AI and Combo Motorsports. Have you checked the Vendor/GP area, you might save some $ there.

Those cam specs from Comp don't sound bad to me. Also for stock p&p castings those flow #s seem a little high. Good Luck

You think the flow numbers are high?? They were done by a pretty reputable shop around here and cost a nice little chunk of change. I actually thought he could have gotten a little more out of the intake, but I was real happy with what they are flowing on the exhaust side.

Thanks for Joe's user name, I will contact him now.

Sweetred...you may want to suck it up on the long distance bill because the information and expertise that you will receive over the phone will be well worth the cost of the call.

Just have all of your engine and head information ready as well as what you are wanting to do with the car...

If you can't afford a phone call....then you may not be ready for the world of high HP!
