The only problem I've ever had was my driver's side window. It's only happened once, where it wouldn't go up or down and after playing with it for a minute or two, it went back to normal. That's it though...everything else is great.

Yep, replaced both power window motors. $50 each at Auto Zone with lifetime warranties. No other electrical problems.

Bought the car new and have put in 2 power windows. Only electrical problems I have had since were mostlikely from mods. Alan

Could he be talking about the Opti? That's not really specific to one model year though.
what a coincidence: my stock cd player just had a light or two go out on the buttons tonight! what's up with that? if it's like my uncle's grand am, GM doesn't sell a part for it and they recommend either living with a burnt out light, or buying a new head unit. i could probably live with it, but then again it has only been a few hours and it's starting to bug me
let me know if you figure up a way to fix this one!
thanks,
Michael.

My stock CD player swallowed a CD once and wouldn't cough it back out...but since then, the unit was replaced. But I've had no electrical problems what so ever.

Never had an electrical problem with mine. Just a slipping clutch, but what can you expect when shooting off 150 hp of N20.

103,000 miles on the odometer

Only thing I had go wrong in those many miles was:

1. Battery Cracked when I ran off the road and I didn't know it, flung acid all over the engine compartment, ended up replacing all wire coverings and radiator hoses, was able to clean most of the acid with baking soda and water.

2. water pump went out @ 70,000 miles, replaced it for 130$ from auto zone.

3. my gear boot frame broke, I glued it back together with my sisters nail glue stuff (super glue) no problems.

4. the little ash tray door in the center console broke, one of the hinges broke, it still works and looks like nothing is wrong with it.

5. Left head light went out @ 80,000 miles

6. my drivers side window is giving my problems right now, but it still works, just gets stuck once in a while.

Don't know of any electric fires happening, car is solid like a rock and built GM Tuff. Runs like new.

I bought my '97 used 2 1/2 years ago--it was bone factory stock then. Since I've had it, I had the following problems:

1) Steering rag joint was replaced--to much play in steering wheel
2) passenger side window motor
3) fuel pump

Original owner replaced (from memory)

1) driver side window motor
2) water pump

Only electrical related problems I've ever had with it that I can recall were:

1. Stock battery replaced after 1 year, died for some reason. Replaced no charge under warranty.

2. Use to have a problem with the 2nd battery draining after car would sit for 5 days or more. Took me a long time to finally find why, it was from a short in the little light in the console ashtray. (I think that was causing it anyway, never happened after I fixed it) Could be why 1st batt went.

3. Replaced pass side turn signal light about a year ago, $1 or something?

4. Never had a problem with either power windows, except being a little slow of course.

That's about it.

The only thing that has happened to my '97 Z was about a year and half ago the fuel pump went out (under warranty)
I drive it daily and now just crossing 70K, I am holding my breath on the water pump its time is about up. But no leaks yet.
