Angry CSR/CSI Electric Waterpump will not fit.

When I tighten the bolts, the fins of the pump scrape the housing so it won't turn. I bought it a few months ago, but just now got to putting it on. Am I just out $160 because they don't know how to machine things right or is there something I can do or somethign I am doing wrong?

Any help would be apreciated.

Also, should I put some grey silicone between the pump and housing or will just that think gasket work?

did you have to notch the housing for the pump to fit in.

mark it where it hits with a sharpie....and use a dremel to gently clearance he pump housing. Everyone has had to do it, no biggie.

Thanks, so this is a common problem. What a POS product. Well, it's a relief at the same time. Thanks for the help. Should I grind on the pump or housing?

It's just what you have to do to install it. It's a good product, just requires a slight mod to the housing, that's all.

Yeah with a dremel you make quick work of the pump. I also had to grind all the way around the pump housing.. not only where the CSR is obviously hitting so watch out for that. It didnt take much... just a few rounds to take off what Im sure is nothing more than a 1/32".

Well, I got it on the pump. It took a long time with a die grinder. It took quite a bit of grinding. I couldn't get ahold of a water pump lathe, lol. I say overall it sucks major. I would have gladly paid extra and got a whole pump rather than go with this crap.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

If your new to the world of modifiying cars, get used to it, almost everything needs to b adjusted somehow to work. even my 2400 dollar heads still needed work to fit right. It's just part of the game. The CSR is actually an excellent and well built pump.

If you think that was hard, you better stop now.

Re: CSR/CSI Electric Waterpump will not fit.

Look at the price of a CSI pump for "other cars". I'd gladly pay the $130 I did for my CSI (I guess it's CSR now?) and do a little grinding, than pay upwards of $350-$400 to get one "ready to go". Hell the money you save BUYS you the Dremel, a 12-pack, a flexi-attachment, and some extra bits.

Re: CSR/CSI Electric Waterpump will not fit.

Why can't they make it to fit right in the first place? I got one for an old style small block that I had to grind on to fit. That engine has been around for 40 years. No excuse that I can think of.
