CSI Water Pump Electric Hookup, HELP!

Hey guys, I just installed my CSI waterpump, and now I am going to hookup the electrical part. What I need to know is if the relay neccasary? I have some 14 guage wire that I am just gonna run to the battery and hookup. Is there any detailed instructions on this topic? I have been following http://ken.lowrance.com/projects/CSI...mp/Default.htm but it is not specific enough. Any help on hooking it up is appreciated, thanks.

dont run it to the battery.....run it to the fuse box, hook it up to something that will turn on when key is on the on position (ignition), and put the fuse in the line so you dont burn the pump, and then your engine...........

Painless Wiring sells a relay harness now for electric water pumps.

I bought a relay harness off a local speed shop in Albuquerque for $20. Their name is Yearwood Speed & Performance.

If you wire it directly to the battery it will run all the time.

I JUST did this install myself a week ago. With the relay harness, I took the ground to a ground, pump ground to a ground, ran the power wire from the relay to the power tower thingie by the battery, pump power to the relay, and ran my "reference" power wire spliced into the solid pink wire to the coil.

That way the pump comes on when you turn the key to 'ON'.

Hope this helps, but your best bet is to find someone that knows what they're doing to show you, or find a good speed shop locally to show you where each wire goes, then go home and git'erdone!

a relay is good to use, but if you dont want to use one wire it to a toggle switch inside.

from the batt. fused in-line to the switch and than from the switch to the pump. just make sure that your switch is rated at 30amps or more.

I would not run it off your ignition! if you have to do any work on your car that requires the key to be on the pump will just sit there and run.

if you want it to run off your ignition install a kill switch so you can turn it off when you need to.

I got the electrical part of this, but what needs to be done on the motor? Far as removal of the shaft, what needs to be plugged, etc?

Give me your email address and I'll send you a pic of the water pump impeller after it was removed. If it's not a good pic I can send you more, I still have the impeller sitting on my workbench.

If you need pics of anything else let me know. The install guide posted above is pretty good.

Re: CSI Water Pump Electric Hookup, HELP!

everyone is going to say this is not the way to wire it up but, i have been running mine for 2000 miles now with a 2 wire hookup

one wire grounded to the frame rail and the power wire running to the ignition fuse under the hood, i put an inline fuse in the power wire

absolutely no problems and less crap to wire up with less crap to fail on me

Re: CSI Water Pump Electric Hookup, HELP!

Here is the easy and cheap way to go. Save your thirty bucks from the painless wiring deal, and go to advance auto parts and buy a 30 amp aux driving lights relay it is 3 buck, and buy a few connecters and follow the wiring insturction with the relay. Use the ignition lead wire from under the fuse box under the hood to power the relay. Hope this helps.

Interesting.

I did that temporarily, and blew the crap out of the ignition fuse in less than 10 minutes of driving.
