CSI pump install questions

I'm installing my CSI pump this weekend following this install guide:

http://ken.lowrance.com/Projects/CSI...mp/Default.htm

I figured I would install the optional switch listed, maybe this is a dumb question but does this switch allow you to run the pump when the car is off, or just to shut off the pump if you don't want it running for some reason or both? I'm not great with reading electrical schematics. Also in the schematics it says that if you are using the switch you need to install "this diode" but they don't list what diode you need in the parts description. Are all diodes the same? Thanks!

Looking at that diagram the pump will always turn on with the ignition key on. With the ignition switch off you can turn the pump on with the switch if you wanted. Not sure how diodes are rated.

Thanks for the info 94, that's what I figured just wasn't sure how to read that.

Does anyone know what type of diode is needed for this install?
Here is the schematic diagram:

Just go down to Radio Shack and pick one up.

They are rated by amps and voltage.
Basically get one that can handle at least 12v and 10amps. The diode acts as a one way circuit.

Drop me a line anytime.

Cool, I just just wanted to be sure I was getting the right one, I'm not too familiar with wiring and just didn't want to screw this up. You did a very nice job on the install page, I wasn't trying to point out any errors or anything if you took my questioning that way. Thanks
