Crazy electrical problems....advice needed!
I have a '95 Z28 that has just started acting like it's possessed, and really need some advice as to what's wrong.
I was driving home tonight and had to sit in stop and go traffic for a while, and while I was in the grid lock, the needle on the volt meter started to fluctuate and my dash lights started to flicker bright/dim. As soon as I started going again, everything was fine, dash lights stopped flickering. Sitting at a set of lights about 15min later, the volt meter started to flicker again, and now I noticed my headlights were flickering, so I took off from the lights and things got really bizarre.
I'm driving along and all of a sudden, several things happened simultaneously. My dash lights got as bright as the sun, my headlights got as bright as the sun, the volt meter was pegged at the top of the gage (I've never seen it there in four years of owning the car), the radio cut out, and the ABS, airbag and check engine lights all came on, and stayed on. After a minute or two, the volt meter gage went back down to where it usually is, hovering around the middle, and flickering again, the headlights and dash lights dimmed, the radio came back on, and the check engine and ABS lights went out. The airbag light stayed flashing.
This happened several more times while driving until I got to a red light again. At the light, I revved it up to about 3,000rpms and the lights went bright, and all the same idiot lights came on, and as soon as I let off the gas, they got dim and the idiot lights went out, except for the airbag one. As well, the car was noticeably down on power now. I made it home a couple of minutes later and have not started it since. Is this just the alternator going bad, or is it something else? Is it normal for all the idiot lights to come on when the alternator is bad? Any advice would be EXTREMELY helpful....thanks!!!!

this sounds to me like the voltage regulator is acting up. im prety sure that on these cars the voltage regulator is part of the alternator. so long story short your probably gunna have to replace the alternator.
