Crate or Rebuild????

Well seeing as how no one can gimme and answer to my other post. I think knocking can't be minor and I probably spun a bearing. SHould I just rebuild my motor or go with a crate. I would like to go with a 383 I'm thinkin. Why are all crate motors that I looked at all for cars without injection???

thanks.

Because they are Gen 1 SBC motors, not Reverse flow cooling optical distributor computer controlled Gen 2 LT1s.

Get the stroker. I didn't, and I'm kicking myself for it everyday.

A stroker will cost more than a crate motor but in the long run it is well worth it. I would highly recommend talking to Combination Motorsports.

Be careful... not all LT1 crate motors will work in late model LT1 cars. In fact, you will not find a crate late model LT1 at any dealership anymore. Most are rebuilds sold as long blocks typically in 355 and 383 form. There may be a FEW dealerships with LT1 crates, but not more that you can count on one hand... unless your from West Virginia... jk

Summitt sels a 383 stroker assembled for like $6000 Save your self some $ and have it build at a machine/engine shop. There are plenty of sponsors on this board that can help

What ever you do stay away from that summit stroker. Have heard nothing good about the parts used in the rotating assembly. Especially for that price. my .02

396 is the same size block as the stock 350, it's just been bored over, new pistons, etc.....

By the way...I read an article, I believe it was in GM high-tech performance, they got a crate 502 to fit.

Technically, the ZR-1 created by John Moss at Chevrolet R&D was able to fit that 502 under the hood. You can do a google search and find it... Combination Motorsports at www.cmotorsports.com has a good reputation... so does Nu-Tek.

I was thinking about getting a Crate Motor from Combination Motorsports (since my first rebuild was f'ed up, and i dont want to do another) and they said that they are on about 6-8 week wait. They have 13 more blocks they need to take care. So i guess ill have to wait a bit longer if i wanted to do that? Has anyone ever bought a crate motor from Combination motorsports. If so, could you fill me in on it?

I was getting estimates on a forged 383 block from Nick at Nu-Tek. He said I could have it in about two weeks! He keeps a machined block ready to go at all times. He spent a lot of time on the phone with me. He is very patient and helpful!
