the only difference was four bolt mains vice two bolt for the f-bodies

in the cars the engine was rated higher in the corvette because of its less restricted intake and exhaust.

If it was replaced at a dealer or with a engine from the dealer, it should be a 4 bolt

thank you. so the f-body and the vette's had the same motor just the diff intake and exhaust.so if its a vette lt1 it can handle more power being a 4 blot main corect?

with one exception

y-bodys(vettes) got the 4 bolt mains from the factory
f-bodys got the 2 bolt from the factory, but the replacment engine from/through GM was a 4 bolt(everything I've heard points to this)

as for strength

in theory, the 4 bolt is a little stronger, but, they both came with the same internals that ussually fail first, so, you figure it out

one thing about 2 bolts, you can go with aftermarket splayed 4 bolt cap, which are stronger then the stock GM strait 4 bolts

i have several friends who race dirt track and run 355's solely and they all swear by the four bolt main blocks,,but i've seen 2 bolt main blocks turn out just as much hp and take just as much abuse as a 4 bolt main block,,like the other guy said its usually other parts which give out way before the the main caps,,,,,,,,,,,,,
