crap, its allways something stupid!

hey guys. so i had a nice little suprise today. i just got my car fully broken in, golen 383, le2 heads and le4 cam, and i was beating on it alittle today, and after i got home i went to check my oil and a pretty decent chunk of my dipstick tube has broken off, right at where the hash marks are down. i still havent gotten around to trying to get the piece out, but i was wondering if the dipstick tubes and stick are diffrent for a 4 bolt main block as apposed to a 2 bolt main block. when i put the engine back together i used the stock dipstick and tube off my origonal engine. i had to cut the end of the dipstick tube to clear the 4 bolt main cap, maby i should have done something with the stick as well.

I added splayed 4 bolt and had to bend mine then when I filled it with the correct amount of oil I checked to see if the dipstick still registered correctly.

With my Golen 396 I did not have any clearance issues with either the tube, or the dipstick. And, I used the OEM factory tube and dipstick. By design, it should pass the 4-bolt main cap and extend down (between the crank counter-weights) into the deep section of the oil pan. However, if something was out-of-alignment (bent) I can see where it might get into the path of a counter-weight.

this is a really wierd problem, maby the stick was in a wierd position, maby it got thrown into a counter weight while i was thrashing on it. ive heard the the part #s for the dip sticks on corvettes are diffrent than f bodys. are the corvette blocks all 4bolt main. maby that dipstick will be a better fit.
