Crankshaft pulley installation

My brother forgot how the pulley was positioned when he took it off. Does it matter how it is installed as far as the crankshaft being properly balanced. I thought it just mattered in telling tdc but i figured i would ask you guys.

Re: Crankshaft pulley installation

Its only for tdc reference. I've read if there are weights in the holes in the balancer then the direction matters, but it really doesn't make any sense. I wouldn't worry about it. If you have the time though, pull the #1 plug and verify TDC. Doesn't hurt to put it on correctly.

The crank pulley is only able to attach to the hub ONE way. The 3 bolt locations are not equally spaced from eachother.

That is true. I always forget they come apart. I have three hubs/pulleys, all of them are stuck together. My post was assuming the pully was still on the hub.

yes the pulley was still on the hub so it could have gone on so many different ways but we truned motor to tdc and then installed it. Thanks for the replys.
