crankshaft position sensor with a double roller Timing Chain?

I know many guys on here are running the Cloyes Double Roller Timing Chains. Im having a little problem that probably has been seen many times. The problem is I cant fit that metal peice on that reads the position of the crankshaft, it rubs the chain! On the old gear its designed so the chain sits in a little further so this peice doesnt hit the chain. What do I do? Thanks guys! -Matt

You have to leave the gear off. Thats part of running a double roller is you haev to delete the Crankshaft positioning sensor.

Another thing to consider is the cranck hub. The hub will sit further if that piece is removed so you need to correct that by either installing an older model hub (93-95), you can cut the sensor wheel and use it as a spacer so that the pulley stays at it relative position.

Something you might want to consider is any difference in the thickness of the crank gears. If the Cloyes is a little thicker (what I have heard), it may come close to the combined length of the stock gear and CPS reluctor. Therefore, your hub may be ok or you might need to use a large shim to make it right.

Is really the only way to tell for sure what the length needs to be is by going off the old gear and the reluctor? Measuring that? What does everyone else seem to be doing? I know many people are running these chains and must be running into this same thing. Also does the bottom of the timing cover need to be plugged or just leave the sensor in there? Thanks. -Matt

you should be able to leave the sensor in place, but if it hits the chain, remove it and plug the hole with a expansion plug(freeze plug)

The difference from the old gear and the cps reluctor compared to the new gear that was supplied with the double roller is a .067 difference if anyone else wanted to know this. I ended up making a spacer to fit into the hub to make up for the difference. Took a peice of aluminum and cut and drilled it to fit.
