crankshaft hub seal repair sleeve?

Ok, I think I need to use the repair sleeve on my crankshaft hub. I replaced all the gaskets & seals and I now have a bad leak. yes, I'm sure its not the wp or opti seals. It had some faint grooves and I hit it with a scotchbrite pad before reassambly. now it leaks. I Any recommend a store or part number for this? when looking over online parts stores I see a couple different listings including one for 'balancer repair sleeve' and 'timing cover repair sleeve'.

Can I just install the sleeve on the hub with a flat piece of wood and a hammer?

thanks,
md

I wouldn't suggest the wood and hammer. It might work but you're taking a risk doing that i used a 3" maybe 4" bolt and some washers its alot safer.

the hub isn't threaded. This is for the hub surface that the seal in the timing cover rides on so there is no straight forward way to use a bolt.

Ok I see what you mean I was thinking putting the hub on the crank to put in the seal a piece of wood and hammer will work. You can also use just the hammer but if you have access to one presses are nice with a really big socket if the cover is off the car.

I'm not following what you're looking for.

Are you just looking for the crank seal that goes into the timing cover that the hub slides through?

Re: crankshaft hub seal repair sleeve?

Carquest has them and rockauto dot com may have them too. I used the SS one on an old SB truck motor. Mine came with the installer cup. I think they make a seal for the timimg cover the has the lips slightly off so it wont ride in the same groove again as an option too. Might be cheaper too.

back from the dead!
I don't have the part number, its been a while. However I do recall getting the part from Advanced Auto, a Parts America store. I believe it was called a 'Saver Sleeve'. somewhere around $6.
