crankshaft hub?

Is there a difference between a 92-95 and the 96-97.I read some where there is but it didn't say why? I have a new one I bought from ebay but am now unsure if it is correct. I would assume the crank position sensor might make a difference but don't know for sure.! Any help would be appreciated.

Re: crankshaft hub?

The 96-97 ones are shorter, because of the CPS reluctor.

So would it be safe to assume that a 96-97 could be used on a 94. I hope so cause it would be the third instance of an ebay problem. I am ready to tear my hair out with that site. There are just way too many dishonest people out there.

Well, no, because 96-97 hubs are shorter. Your pulley would end up too close to the timing cover. Belt position would be off and the hub might even rub on the timing cover.

Damn, I was hoping the hub would bottom out on the crank in the same spot as the 92-97 would and that there just wouldn't be as much of the hub that is pressed on to the crank, if that makes any sense

I think to clarify what I mean is that from the point that the hub bottoms out on the crank, that either hub from that point forward of the engine would be the same length. I have a 94 so I would be able to use the shorter hub if that is the case.Right?

The point from where it bottoms on the crank gear (or reluctor) to the front of the crank snout is exactly where the length is different (it might be a little different on the front as well). You must use the pre-96 longer hub off an f-body. LT1 hubs from non-f-body cars can be different lengths as well.

Re: crankshaft hub?

I know(or at least it was described as) an lt1 hub for a camaro (fbody). I'll see if I can't identify which one it is. Thanks for the info.
