It Cranks But Won't Start
It Cranks But Won't Start
I performed the Schrader valve test as was suggested. The pump is delivering a lot of pressure. The only other possibility I could come up with is a loose timing chain. Consequently, I checked on the condition of the chain and found it to have a bit of a sag. Moreover, an inspection of the sprockets revealed some scarring, evidently from the looseness of the chain, in the grooves of the upper and lower sprockets. Could a loose timing chain be the cause of my no-start problem? Please advise.
Re: It Cranks But Won't Start
Did you already check the opti?Mine one day just stoped and I wasnt thinkin anything so I tried to restart it bc I was a lil low on gas but should of made it.So I went and got gas and put it in and the car tried to restart a lil so i changed the opti and that was it
Re: It Cranks But Won't Start
The following have been checked and verified to be in working order:
-Fuel Pump (bench checked)
-Fuel fuse and relay
-Fuel injectors
-Fuel pressure
-Opti (removed and checked)
-Coil (removed and checked)
-Spark plugs
-Fire to plug
-New Fuel filter installed
I have just removed the timing chain to determine if this is the culprit. Upon inspection, it appears to have a bit more sag than I think it should. Moreover, the sprockets, upper and lower, are scared. I presume this is from the loose chain.

Re: It Cranks But Won't Start
I would truly like to believe that the problem is a blown fuse, inspite of the fact that I've been tearing at the car for the past 4 months trying to get at the problem. Assuming that you are correct, and I hope that you are, are there any additional fuse location apart from the fusebox under the hood and the one in the dashboard on the driver's side? The car is a '96 Caprice.

Re: It Cranks But Won't Start
Right now the front of the engine is off in order to access the timing chain. As for the injectors, they were checked with one of those gizmos with contact points ( I don't know its actual name.) that is stuck into the electrical injectors connections. All 8 of them lit up. A friend of mine suggested that a stuck EGR valve could be the problem. Your thoughts...
