crank position sensor?

does the crank position sensor have to be connected? or is it there just to detect a miss if it occurs?

Re: crank position sensor?

If you have an OBDII car, you need to have the crank position sensor functional. You didnt give us any car info...you screen name implies you have a 95, that OBDI and doesn't have a crank position sensor.

Re: crank position sensor?

The crank sensor on LT1s is for misfire detection only. It will not affect spark delivery. Most other cars/engines will not run with the crank sensor.

That's no problem at all, this sensor on OBDII cars is only for misfire detection, it'll throw a code on 96-97, but the enige should start and run fine. Your 95 PCM will not be expecting this such signal anyway

Re: crank position sensor?

Since the opti can discern the Cam position with 1/720th of a rotation it can be used to emmulate the CPS very accurately. As long as the timing is set correctly.

98+ need the CPS.....

Re: crank position sensor?

I'm running a 96 engine in my 95; just leave the sensor in place (to block the hole in the timing chain cover); there's no mating connector in the 95 harness as it wasn't used therefore no issue.

Re: crank position sensor?

I have not ran in my last few combos with no issues. In fact, even if I did have it plugged in, I have a washer where the plate used to be taking up the space.

It is not needed.

Hi, I've already done that before, not only on one but 2 OBDII LT1's , and you know what I didn't even get a light, but that's probably due to the "export" PCM having some error codes disabled.

You learn something new everyday. I was taught in school that an engine with a crank sensor won't run at all without one.

It's probably the only engine that does this. The optispark is used for crank position, so it does not need the sensor. It was only added because of OBD-II requirements for misfire detection.
