Crank position sensor

the 94, Well lately I have noticed every once in awhile days in between. It'll take like 5 cranks to start the car (dont like this) usually fires on the first crank & 1/2...right up ya know.

Started poken around. I know the starter is on its way out sometimes clicks dont engage, turn ignition switch off again, try again it goes. But I found today that there is a plug missing(not spark).Just behind balancer justified lower left of center of crank.Which I think is where a CPS woud be,do we have one?

Anyway what is this? And where should I look to find the missing plug thats supposed to be in there.Cant find it... If it is supposed to have a plug in it where would that plug come from in the engine bay to help me track it down. Which strand of harness persay in case its been wacked off or something crazy.Coarse I'll look harder tomorrow just need some help.Recently bought the car and honestly dont know if it was there when I got it.

Doesnt seen to be hurting anything being gone...I think... other than the starting thing could be linked

A 94 shouldn't have a CPS. Only 96-97 cars got that little feature. The CPS is on the bottom, passenger side of the timing chain cover. If someone did a vented opti conversion on your car, they may have used a 96-97 cover. Most people use a 95 cover because there isn't a CPS hole to plug.

Thats what I'm talkin about it has that plug hole.So I have a 96-7 timing cover. And I dont need to worry about finding the plug to go in there. I was thinkin as I was under there wtf where the he!! is it Thanks.
But how can I tell if a vented opti is in there with that cover(stupid question?) Will non-vented go in a 96-7 cover?I would like to verify.I can see the opti from the top just below WP, is there something distinguishable from the outside w/o takin the car apart. This is something I really should know in case it goes out I would need a vented. When before today I would have bought A non one for a 94. nons are cheaper right

Actually, non-vented caps are more expensive than the vented version.

1993-1994 optispark (non-vented) 10457702 $321.41

1995-1997 optispark (vented) 1104032 $230.97

I'm not totally sure of the differences between the two at the moment, but I believe the cam dowl pin length is different as well as the opti physically having the vents/plugs for additional hoses.

If you have the late model timing cover, you gotta have the vented opti in there, too. A non-vented opti will not work with that cover. I guess you can consider yourself lucky.

I agree w/ shoebox. BTW you can also verify by finding the two vacuum lines connected to the bottom portion of the opti. One line runs to the rubber air intake duct, the other runs to the intake manifold.

Thanks for your service gents!

Well it is a vented opti confirmed that, was installed before I got it . The vacuum lines are present only about 7"s long and just dangling there .
So can you be specific where I should plug these line in. Or maybe a schematic or something.

Look on my Tech Page. There are pics of where everything needs to go. Post back if you cannot find what you need. You will probably have to buy a new vacuum harness if yours is butchered.

Boy thats a wealth of knowledge

In my library now,You the man

So I cant get those flow reducers/filter or the check valves just anywhere? And make my own lines? But Since I should get the oe lines...Do the 2 lines come w/ that PN elbow&intake lines.I need the little connector to punch into the TB elbow also none present.

Common sense tells me that the flow is down the line from TB elbow and sucked thru opti and up the line to the intake. So I hope those checks have arrows on them, coarse I could just blow thru to see which way the check needs to face.

Ahh anyway thanks again I'm happy with my new find But asides from the dangley vacuum hoses off the bottom of opti the guy left there ignorantly and incorrectly. When I located the spot on the intake where the vacuum hose is supposed to hook up NOT capped or plugged wide open vacuum leak

The p/n is a complete vacuum harness with both hoses and all the little parts included.
