crank, pistons and rods, oh-my...

I am looking at a 383 stroker kit for my 95 Z28 LT1. The guy I am working with has a good reputation. He quoted a 383 stroker kit to me for $3400. It is an all forged setup. When I look around the web the prices range from $500 to $4000 for stroker kits. He mentioned a SCAT forged crank, and I am getting the full parts list later. Any thoughts? I am also getting a full head job and plenum port for $1700. Also cam, SPEC clutch, Aluminum flywheel, 48 Lb injectors, 340 fule pump, mazier electric water pump, and headers & Y-pipe.

Can anybody share some of the good and bad with this type of job?

Thanks.

What does the $3400 include....(parts,machine work, balancing, removal, assembly, install, ect.)? Dependeding on what all that price includes it may be a good price or a not so good price.

I just picked up a Scat 4340 forged crank, 6" h-beam rods, SRP forged pistons, rings, and bearings for $1,400.

If you're paying that kind of $$ for headwork, make sure they are flow-benched to determine actual flow numbers, so you can select your cam.

The evil black cat says to spend an extra $50 bucks on a cam and have it designed to complement the heads.
