It almost sounds like you are pulling against the inside of the hub.
You do have a rod or something going INTO the hole in the crank for the puller to pull against?

I've used the bolt method that was mentioned earlier to pull the hubs off.

Inserted fully into the hole and threaded till it bottoms out is a threaded rod. Then I have a socket on the end of it to center it up, then comes the end of the puller. In theory it should work perfect, it is just stuck. I have school today so I will try once more tonight before I pull the radiator out to get an impact gun in there.

Sounds like your in the same boat I am in. I've already stirp the center threads out of one harmonic balancer puller, tonight it's going to get heated with a propane torch, it's coming off one way or another. I've noticed that each time I take this thing off it seems to get harder ever time, I'm not sure what the deal is.

I got up and degreased everything this morning. Man I cant believe how nasty it was after being spotless 8 months ago when I dropped this motor in.

I tried once more to move it and it wont move, and I am afraid the bolts are going to break and fly up at me. I am going to heat it with a propane torch after all the engine degreaser evaporates and hope it comes off. I am going to put anti seize all over it and make sure I sand it down a little more to hopefully make it easier next time.

I personally wouldn't suggest heating it up.... it sounds like you are doing it right just make sure the teeth of the puller are behind the 3 little lips behind the pulley and I used an extension for a 1/4" socket wrench by putting it in there ( I dont see why you are threading a bolt in there... dont see why it would be wrong to do it that way though...) and using the female side to touch the inside of the pulley puller. I did this, and socket wrenched down on the end of the puller. It was by no means easy, and it didn't come off w/out a loud noise... but once it was off it was off, and went back on just as easy as it came off. hope this helps

Lightbulb CRANK HUB won't budge

It does indeed sound like you are dead-heading against the HUB itself, I just pulled one for the first time, lastnight from a 93 LT-1. I was deadheading against the HUB itself as well. I was using a STEERING WHEEL PULLER, and since it was my first time dealing with this, I assumed that it was just like a conventional SBC. Once I actually used a light to see what was going on, that is when I realized the problem. Using the stock 7/16x20 bolt screwed in a few threads, allowed me to easily pull the HUB off about half way, then I used a grade-8 bolt of the same thread, and removed it completely. I wouldn't use a socket ot anything like that, just the bolt. No flames intended, but step back and analyze it further, before possibly damaging something more than the puller. HTH's

Alright I give up.

I am not pushing against the hub, I am pushing against the very back of the crank where the threads end, which is correct. I have so far broken two harmonic balancer pullers, and one three jaw puller doing this. I just heated it up for 10 mins with a propane torch, got a hardened harmonic puller and tried it while my dad was tapping on it with a hammer also. No luck, nothing is moving and then BAM. The ears just all shatter off this hardened puller all at once and it disintegrates. Also when I put the three jaw puller behind the ears of the hub, it bent the ears in, so its ruined. I guess all I can do is cut it in half with a grinder and break it off?

Ok, I am going to post my "owned" pic in a little while. We tried and tried, got it cherry red and it would not move. Finally got a buddie's dad who had an oxy/cetelene torch come over. Cut it down about 3/4 the way through on 3 edges and it finally popped off. It was already ruined because the ears were bent, so I didnt really care. BTW, be careful if you have to do this. Whatever it's made of is really strong and took both our breath's away for a few seconds when we got a smell of it. Probably not too good to breath, but it went away soon. Similar to welding galvanized steel, if you have ever smelled that before you know what I am talking about.

I hope you slide it back on without problems, because heating it up to that point will most like alter the shape of the cranksnout just a touch.

Good Luck.

I was in the same boat, couldn't get mine of either, in fact I bent 3 bolts that I used in the center. I finally used a 1/4" extension, heated it up and slowly but surely it came out, oh I was using a crows foot, don't know if that would make any difference. Well good luck with the rest of the rebuild, hopefully you will have smooth sailing.

Try this man

This is how I do it, a little more material is required ,but I have never broken my junk autozone puller.

First off get another puller, get 3- 3 1/2" X 5/16" grade 8 bolts, get 3- 5/16" nuts, get 6 washers big enough so it will not pull through your puller. The ones I use are 7/8" O.D. Also get a 4 1/4" X 5/16" allen head bolt. From here you place the allen head bolt in the hole where the bolt the holds the hub on, which you already removed. Next get your puller and place a washer on each of the 3 1/2" X 5/16" bolts put all 3 of them through the holes in the puller. Now take the puller with the bolts and washers insert them through the holes in the hub, place the last 3 washers on the back side of the hub, install 1 nut on each bolt. Now tighten the center bolt of the puller, so it takes the slack out of everything ,and it is pushing against the allen head bolt that is in the center. Center everything up, make sure it's even and pull it off.

I hope I made it clear enough, if not post and I will try again.

Wow what a nightmare.

Glad you conquered the demon. Pick up a keyed hub from Thunderracing and antisieze that badboy a little bit before you install it.
